Whaling Guns - Toensberg, Norway

Good morning,

Although it is no longer politically correct to eat whales in many parts of the world today, whales provided a source of food, fuel, clothing, and much more.  Even the bones of whales were used by people in Scandinavia to stay alive.  Without the hunting of whales, survival would not have been possible.
Until the whaling gun was invented in Toensberg, Norway, whalers used spears.
The Viking and Whaling Museum in Norway provides an excellent history of the times when whales provided life for the people in the cold North.
More about this museum to come.

All the best,
Lois

Back in the days when humans fit in with nature, the whale population could handle the hunting, now human technology lets us extract all the earths resources to extinction.
