Packing Up and Heading Home

Good morning,

We are home in Ohio from Port Canaveral and I have finally had time to go through the pictures I took just before we left Freedom of the Seas and of our journey home.

We weather was gorgeous as we drove across Route 528 from the port to I-95 North.

It wasn't long before we passed Jacksonville, Florida, and stopped for the night in near Savannah, Georgia.  We literally crashed in our hotel, ordered pizza in the room, then went to bed early.

The next morning we were up early and crossed into South Carolina.

We saw the cows are still hard at work.  I love these signs. :)

This older style fire hydrant was at a rest stop in North Carolina.

The closest structure to the fire hydrant was this picnic area.  Further away was a classic rest stop building.  The weather was just beautiful, but that wasn't to last.

As we got closer to the mountains and our second stop for the night in Tennessee, the fog began to set in.

 Then came the rain.

 And, more rain.

Our second stop was in Tennessee just before Knoxville.

Yes, I know that's not a very healthy looking dinner, but it sure was good.  That's ribs and shrimp at Ruby Tuesday's near our hotel.

 The next morning the rain was on and off, mostly on.  It did clear enough to see the big green dinosaur just before Pioneer, Tennessee, where we made our usual stop at the Stuckey's Store to buy some home made fudge and check out their newest t-shirts. 

When we got back on the road, the rain was back on the road, too.

 After we crossed into Kentucky, the weather improved dramatically.  It was overcast, but dry.  Dry was very appreciated.

 Here's the first sign with Cincinnati on it.  We know we're getting close now.

 We passed the Kentucky Horse Park which was a reminder to visit there again soon.

 Before we knew it, we had crossed the Mighty Ohio River and were in Cincinnati. 

We are home! It sure feels good.  :)

Barge at the Mouth of the Licking River

Good morning,

This is the last in my three part series of images taken at the end of last summer on the Ohio River.

Above is the Licking River where it flows into the Ohio River directly across from Cincinnati, Ohio.  I am on a riverboat taking these images. 

Just after I snapped the first picture, I saw a barge come out of the Licking River and make a left turn to go down the Ohio River.

That little tow boat had quite a struggle against the current to get that barge turned and headed downstream.

 Obviously, that captain knew exactly what he was doing.

This was fascinating to watch.

Serpentine Wall - Cincinnati, USA

Good morning,

Today's images are a continuation from yesterday of the shore line along the Ohio River at Cincinnati.

Above is the Serpentine Wall, a place where people can gather to watch river activities and fireworks displays.

At the end of the Serpentine Wall is the old Public Landing.  I remember boarding the Delta Queen here for a cruise up the river to celebrate my father's 85th birthday.

With a little less zoom, you can see the skyline of Cincinnati behind the Serpentine Wall.

And, in this image, just a little further down the river you see the Showboat Majestic tied up at the Public Landing, the US Bank Arena, and the Great American Ball Park, home of the Cincinnati Reds.

As mentioned yesterday, this series of images was taken last summer.  We look forward to warmer weather again to get back on the river.

Under the Purple People Bridge

Good morning,

While sorting pictures I came across a few from last summer that I haven't shared with you yet.  It's fun to see green leaves on the trees now, too.

I took this series of images while we were aboard a riverboat on the Ohio River passing under the Purple People Bridge at Cincinnati.

Seeds have found places to grow on the old bridge supports.

 And, plenty of drift wood piles up, too.  That old tree managed to get itself suspended there during high water.

 Beyond the driftwood is the Serpentine Wall.  I'll have more images of it tomorrow.

 This last shot is of the sun shining through the Purple People Bridge as I was looking straight up.

Ah, summer will return again - eventually.  :)

Needlework Update - January, 2013

Good morning,

Time flies when you're having fun and also when you are traveling!  It is time for another monthly needlework update and I have quite a few projects to share for those who are interesting in what is coming off of the needles and hooks here at my place. 

Above is a burnt orange cowl scarf that is so very soft.

This is another one made of similar yarn, also knitted.  This one is in shades of black and grey.  Both of these cowls are not only fashion statements, they are so warm and soft.

Here's another purple and lavender fashion scarf similar to the one I showed you last month.  These will go to twins.  ;)

This is another blue wool hat, similar to the one that I showed you last month.  At this writing, it is available for sale in my Etsy Shop, EvensensProductions.com.  I realized after I took the picture that the fancy can I used to hold up the hat sparkled through in the picture because of the flash of the camera. 

This purple wool hat is now living happily in Italy. 

This is a large size super warm hat.  I enjoyed working with two yarns to create this design. 

I made several of these for gift exchanges.  I also made one for My Honey and the one shown is for me.  Every once in awhile I make something for myself.  ;)  This soft, self-striping yarn was so much fun to use. 

This month there were...

 

 ...quite a few...

...more...

...turtles...

 ...,too.

 I also made several sets of 100% cotton Mug Rugs (aka Wash Cloths, Dish Cloths, Snack Mats)...

...that come with button bands for gift giving or for display in the bathroom.  These fit very nicely in a gift basket of bath soaps and oils. 

I "baked" quite a few zero calorie cupcakes during the past month, too,...

 ...in many different "flavors"...

 ...decorated with Christmas "candies." 

So, that's it for the January update.  I'll have quite a few more items for next month's update.

MACH Penelope T. Labrador, MXB MJS NJP XF T2B - SR23514702

Good morning,

We are SO PROUD of our daughter, Catherine, and our Labrador Retriever, Penny.  Catherine is Penny's trainer and together Penny has achieved the AKC title of MACH (Master Agility Champion.)  She is truly at the top of the Agility Dog food chain. 

I just had to brag.  ;)
