Horses in Southern Indiana

Good morning,

My Honey and I spotted some beautiful horses in a field in Southern Indiana so we had to stop and take some pictures.

I happened to have my baby camera at the ready.  This zoomed image isn't the best technically, but I love the subject.  How very sweet.

The horses thought we looked pretty interesting, too, so they came over to take a look.  What a photo op!

When they realized we hadn't arrived bearing carrots or apples, they decided they had given us enough of their time.  ;)

 Off they went across the field once again.

 The little one looks like his Daddy, doesn't he. 

 They all looked so happy.

 Just beautiful!

Walking, Birding, and More at Fernbank Park

Good morning,

We are back at Fernbank Park again today.  There are wonderful walking and jogging walks here along the Ohio River.

It's not very crowded today and the weather is perfectly sunny with a gentle breeze.

These are some of the birds found here, but I wasn't very lucky today.  There were quite a few children playing nearby and I think their activity and laughter probably kept the birds at a distance.  That was fine with me.  I truly enjoyed the happy laughter from the children as I walked.

There is a narrow area of natural growth between the walkway and the river.  You can see the Ohio River at the top of the image.

This is a more comprehensive view.  What a beautiful park.  We will spend more time here and take more pictures.

Shopping in Metamora, Indiana

Good morning,

These are a few more images from Metamora, Indiana.  We had a great time looking at the historical canal, railroad, and grist mill. 

These are images of more of the shopping area, off the main street.

There are plenty of places to stop and eat, too.  Fatted Calf sounds like it fits me perfectly.  :\

It was early in the season so there weren't many people here today, but many of the stores are open.

 I remember making a similar wind catcher while in girl scouts.  Very nice!

 It is obvious that most of the buildings are original to the town. 

 This building is where Amish products are sold. 

We'll certainly return to Metamora in the Fall.  Spring and Fall are the best for comfortable weather to wander around the town, take pictures, shop, and eat.  In the Winter a beautiful Christmas shopping event with fantastic decorations, Santa, and plenty of photo ops make a visit lots of fun, too.

Grist Mill, Metamora, Indiana

Good morning,

This is the grist mill at Metamora, Indiana, on the Whitewater Canal.  Back in days it was active the mill was powered by the canal and farmers brought their grain here to be ground via the canal or railroad track beside the mill.

There was a school group (their school bus is visible in the first image) inside this day having a tour and the building was somewhat crowded so we didn't go inside this time.  We have been here before and will surely return in the Fall.

Machinery from the mill is on display outside.  My Honey, the engineer, enjoyed seeing these.

Castillo De San Marcos - National Monument - Part 2 of 2

Good morning,

We were at Castillo De San Marcos in St. Augustine, Florida, at a perfect time on a sunny day.  The shadows cast inside the first floor of the fort provided wonderful camera candy!

Plenty of canon were here both on the ground level and high on the walls of the Castillo.

The Castillo is perfectly situated to protect St. Augustine from the sea.

There's that handsome man I know so well, taking pictures also.

 In the courtyard we could see organized tours exploring the first level.

 There was a professional film crew here, too, presumably filming a documentary.

 Back on the upper wall, I walked all the way around this huge complex that was defended from attacks from both land and sea.

 It wasn't long before a group of actors arrived to practice shooting the canon. 

 I moved off to the side to get out of the camera range of all of those taking pictures.  Sadly, that man in the green shirt didn't get the memo.

This was only a practice session of all of the routines involved in shooting the canon.  No shots were actually fired.

What a fantastic visit!  We truly enjoy our US National Parks and Monuments.

Castillo De San Marcos - National Monument - Part 1 of 2

Good morning,

Last January we explored a fantastic piece of history when we visited Castillo De San Marcos in St. Augustine, Florida.

This is the entrance across the moat.  Since our visit here, we have spotted this site in various movies.

The people dressed in period costumes provide information and perform various historical reenactment activities at the Castillo.

This is the inside courtyard.  It's amazing how easy it is to identify this place when it is the set for a movie.

Originally, that stairway to the right was a ramp so heavy canon could be hauled to the top of the wall to defend the Castillo.

 The inside was quite primitive for those soldiers who lived and fought here.

 We truly enjoy and appreciate our many National Monuments and the efforts taken to preserve the stories and the antiques of the area.

 Although visitors couldn't climb these stairs, we were able access the upper walls of the Castillo.  Tune in tomorrow to go up on the outer walls with us.

St. Augustine, Florida, Dog Walk

Good morning,

Here are a few more images I took in St. Augustine, Florida, last January.  That is such a wonderful time of the year to be in Florida.  The air is warm, but not hot, and the sun is so welcome to those of us whose homes are further North.

We visited Castillo De San Marcos that day.  Images of the inside of this US National Park are to come. 

Walking along the sea was so beautiful.

And, my final image of the day is of a lone tree that is beside the walk to Castillo De San Marcos.  It appears to have weathered many tropical storms and has developed quite an individual personality.
