Commercial Activity at the Port of St. Maarten, Dutch West Indies

Good morning,

We are back in St. Maarten, Dutch West Indies.

I find it fascinating to watch the port activity, both the other cruise ships and the commercial activity.
The large ship in the center of this image was in the process of loading cargo.  That's a tractor trailer truck on the dock just to the right of the ship.
The truck was being loaded onto the ship...
...where the cab will be removed.  At the next port another cab will pull the trailer off the ship.
On the other side of the port a very small, old cruise ship was tied up.

This was a typical cruise ship thirty years ago.  These lovely old ships are still out here, serving specialized markets and charters.  Their passengers number from 150 to 300 as opposed to the ship from which I took this picture that accommodates 4,328 plus 1,400 crew.

My, has cruising changed!

Best,
Lois

The "little" cruise ship reminds me a bit of "love Boat" Days!
Tell me, have you taken any pictures of churches named after St. Nicholas in your travels? I would love to include one in my section on St. Nicholas churches around the world...if you have!
Blessings!

Good morning,

This ship is very close to the "Love Boat" of days of old. Cruising gets better and better all the time with more and more to do on the ships and more ports to visit.

Ann, I'm a regular reader of your blog and I have been on the lookout for churches names St. Nicholas in our travels. Most churches in this area are named for Jesuit Priests or Franciscans. While we were sailing in Europe I probably would have seen more of them. I will keep looking. ;) I really enjoy your blog.

Thank you so much, everyone, for stopping by.

Very best,
Lois

Hi Lois, just catching up on back posts and the smaller cruise ship would suit Grenville and myself perfectly. Your photos are always making us think about a cruise some day in the future...maybe after a few more road trips?
