Our Alarm Clock

Good morning,

What a sweet way to wake up in the morning.

This is our sweet Elsa who brings us cuddles and kisses in the morning.

It is good to be retired.

Log Splitting and Stacking

Good morning,

We had temps in the mid 50's F this week so spent a couple of hours splitting and stacking logs.

My Honey carries the big logs over to the splitter and splits them.
I get the split logs to the stacks and stack them.  Teamwork.  We did quite a lot in only a couple of hours!
There are more to split on another day.

We have four other full racks so have plenty of split wood to get through the winter, but it will be nice to get all of these logs split and stacked, too.

Happy Winter!  It's quite nice here.

Flashback to Christmas Aboard Enchantment of the Seas

Good morning,

My friends, Martha and Russell, enjoyed Christmas at sea aboard Royal Caribbean's Enchantment of the Seas.
Martha was kind enough to share some of her pictures with us.
Christmas at sea is beautiful and is a wonderful way for families to enjoy the holidays with each other where no one has to cook and clean up.
I got a real kick out of Santa on the John Deere.

Thank you, Martha, for sending the pictures!

All the best,
Lois

Mr. Red

Good morning,

As we were leaving the casino yesterday I snapped this picture of Mr. Red, the Cincinnati Reds Mascot, who was seated on a bench waiting for someone to take a selfie with him.

No, he's not real, but he's kinda cute, isn't he.  ;)

Annual Labrador Retriever Club Luncheon

Good morning,

Yesterday we enjoyed the annual Labrador Retriever Club luncheon at Belterra Casino.

We drove through downtown Cincinnati and...
...passed one casino on the way to another.
Getting to Belterra from home we cross the Ohio River from Ohio to Kentucky, then...
...after a few miles on the circle freeway, cross the Ohio River from Kentucky to...
...Ohio.  Confusing, but it is the shortest, fastest way to get there.
Just across the bridge and a right turn...
 ...here we are at Belterra.
We parked next to Catherine's car.
After a great buffet dinner with the other Lab Club members, we played the slots for awhile.  I won a little, My Honey lost a little so we came out just fine.  We never put much in the machines and when we can take more out than we put in, we leave!

It was a fun day.

Work in Process This Week

Good morning,

It has been a busy week with the knitting needles and crochet hooks.  The front, back, and first sleeve of the current sweater are finished and...
...I've got the second sleeve started.
This is the beginning of a cloche hat for the shop.   These have been flying out the door lately so I'm trying to keep up.
There is progress on the crochet lap blanket since my last WIP post.  I work on this when I am upstairs and to give my hands a rest from so much knitting.  All of these colors remind me of chocolate, caramel, vanilla cream. Yum!
I bought a pair of these gloves at JoAnn's quite some time ago.  They don't offer a whole lot of support, but they do bring warmth to my right thumb which has become quite sore from all of the abuse I give it with knitting needles.

I have another cloche hat started to replace one that just sold as well as a neck warmer I'm designing.  I have to spend some time going through my buttons to find just the right ones. Pictures coming next time....

If only I had more sets of hands and more hours in the day to keep up with all of the ideas....

What are you making, baking, growing this week?

All the best,
Lois

Cake Decorating

Good morning,

Catherine shared these images with us.  She and her friend, Erica, attended a cake decorating class...
...that turned out to be fantastic fun.
The cake itself was delicious.  Catherine brought some home that I enjoyed sampling.
How fun!
The entire demo included...
 ...your cake to bring home.
And, when the cake got home, I was delighted to enjoy the first piece.

Thanks, Catherine, this is fun and tasty, too!

If you're in the Greater Cincinnati area and would like to try this, you can find information about the classes at Cincinnati Cake and Candy Supply.

Where the Deer and the Labradors Play

Good morning,

I had to zoom my phone camera to get most of these images.

That handsome young buck was standing in the yard diagonally behind our own early one morning this week.
We have deer in the wooded areas nearby and once in the past 40 years we have seen a doe and fawn in our yard, so this is not a common occurrence so close to our homes.
This young fellow seemed lost.  He didn't seem too concerned about our dogs barking at him, though.
It was due to our dogs barking that we went outside to see what it was all about.  Wendy was determined to "protect" us from this creature.
The buck flipped his tail a couple of times, then wandered off between the houses to the next block.
Wendy kept an eye on him until he was gone.  We hope he didn't get near the high traffic street just three houses away.

Until recently, the property on the other side of our fence was completely forested so Wendy would never have seen the deer.  The new owners have removed all of the trees and underbrush.  They are remodeling the property and will surely landscape the property beautifully.

All the best,
Lois

Comfort Food

Good morning,

Sometimes we just need a good cheeseburger.  I tried having one at Bob Evans earlier this week and was somewhat disappointed.  Of course, that drove me to make a really, really good one at home.

There's always a reason to have a good cheeseburger.

Uff Da! Santa Has a Sense of Humor

Good morning,

Santa had a sense of humor again this year.  This time he brought My Honey this t-shirt.

It'll be fun when he wears it this summer.

It's Tradition - New Year's Eve Dinner

Good morning,

Sometimes I am not quite sure where the traditions originated, but we continue to enjoy them year after year.  I'm sure every family has similar traditions.

For us, New Years Eve dinner was prime rib, steamed cabbage, scalloped potatoes, and corn casserole.  That was one week ago tonight.  I sure could enjoy the same menu tonight!

This fabulous meal was prepared for us by daughter, Catherine.

All the best,
Lois

Happy Birthday Elsa!

Good morning,

Our Baby Elsa turned one year old yesterday.  What a wonderful year it has been and what fabulous years we have ahead of us with her.  She is such a sweetheart! Cake image courtesy of Catherine.
This is how she looked when she came home to us last March.
And, this is our Sweet Elsa now.  Such a wonderful, pretty, precious pup.

Happy Birthday, Millstone Elsa Astrid Evensen!

Love you,
Mom, Dad, and Catherine

Needlework and Wood Working Update - January 2020

Good morning,

We have had a very busy month in the wood workshop and needlework studio!

Above is a beautiful carving of a Lady with Flowing Hair.  $36.  More images and information are here.
I love these signs!  Kjell made this one for our Elsa and...
...this one for our friend Erica, Tumble's Mom.
This gorgeous detailed engraved wedding or anniversary gift is now available in the shop.  Kjell made one of these and we gave it as a wedding gift.  It was so loved that we decided to make another for the shop.  $180.  Click here for more images and information.
This is something that Kjell made for us as just a fun project.  We didn't have our live floor-to-ceiling Christmas tree this year because we have that area of the living room set up for our senior pup, Penny, who no longer can climb stairs.  She used to come upstairs to be with us each evening and sleep in our bedroom all night, but now can only roam the first floor and back yard. Rather than displace her for a tree, we decided to forego the tree this year.  So, this tree graced our recreation room for the holidays.
This is a beautiful piece that Kjell made as our Christmas card on line.  It will be displayed in our home on the holidays for years to come.
Here's another "Vikings at the Roots of our Family Tree" wall art to restock the shop.  $94.  More images and information here.

My Honey makes the most beautiful gifts for me!  I just love this!  What a sweetheart! It is already hanging in our kitchen.
This gorgeous engraved wall art piece is new in the shop this month.  The first one sold within an hour and more have been ordered.  As soon as the orders are filled, more will be made for the shop.
This wool blend heavy, cuddly, warm capelet poncho is the perfect way to keep your shoulders and neck warm while having free movement of your arms.  Catherine, my beautiful model, wears these in her office to stay toasty while still able to work at her computer.  It's also great for someone confined to a wheelchair to stay warm without a larger garment getting tangled in the chair.  $50.  More images and information here.
I've made a few accessories that can be mixed/matched with the capelet above.  This cloche hat in seaman's hat style can also be used as a chemo cap.  It is so very warm and comfy!  $15.  More images and information here.
This is ribbed hat holds extra warmth and can be worn as a slouch hat (brim down) or toboggan hat (brim folded up.)  $44.  It's available here.
This is a matching hooded neck warmer or gnome hat.  It is so very soft and warm and is perfect to keep your head warm without worrying about the wind blowing off your hat and scarf.  One Size Fits Most.  $45.  More information and images here.

When I first got this heavy, soft, wool blend yarn, I was skeptical about whether I really liked it or not.  Now I love it!  It has a wonderful feel and molds so nicely into the items I knit and crochet.
This is another hooded neck warmer in the same type of wool blend yarn, but in burnt orange.  This one was a custom order and has been delivered.
This one is for My Honey.  He saw me making these hats and said he'd like to have one so I told Santa who brought one for him for Christmas.
We have sold quite a few cloche hats recently so this one is to restock the shop.  We have more than 60 similar hats from $8 available in the shop.  Click here to see them all.
That Happy Door or Window Sill or Toy Snake was a custom order and has been delivered.  I keep saying I'll make one of these for the shop, but haven't gotten there yet.  I must say he is pretty cute.  ;)
This Azure Blue Cables and Lace Sweater is a custom order that has been shipped with...
...matching hat...
...headband...
...and boot cuffs.

This set has been shipped to the buyer.  There are similar sweaters, hats, headbands, and boot cuffs available in the shop.

So, that was a busy month!  We are still hard at work filling orders and designing new items for the shop.  Let us know if there is something you would like for us to make for you.

Thanks so much for your encouragement, shares, likes, favorites, and purchases, too!

All the very best for a wonderful 2020.

Lois
