Supply Ship - Coco Cay, Bahamas

Good morning,

That white tender boat in the image above is taking passengers from Majesty of the Seas to the private island of Coco Cay, Bahamas, for a lunch on the beach, swimming, para sailing....  The day I took these images I stayed on board and took my usual morning walk around Deck 7.
Majesty is the supply ship for the island and this huge crane is used to unload supplies...
...to a special supply tender to be taken to the island.
It was different today, though.  This is an empty propane canister being loaded back on to our ship to be refilled back in Miami, then returned to the island on another visit.
It's more complicated than when you ask your honey to go down to the gas station and exchange your empty propane tank for a filled tank for your back yard grill.
This is quite a process to watch as the tanks swing from the crane as they are lifted from the supply tender...
...high into the air...
...and across the bow...
...to the exact spot...
...where they will be gently...
...placed on the deck...
...and the straps from the crane are removed.
Meanwhile, the supply tender is waiting off the bow to deliver the next canister.  Note the para sailing boat and parachute in the background.
The supply tender moves close once again...
...to prepare the next empty canister...
...to be loaded on to Majesty.
That one is swung across the bow and lowered...
...into place with the others.
The man operating the crane and directing this whole process is Bosun.

Filled canisters will be delivered to the island supply tender boat so that the great beach barbecue lunch ashore can be prepared and served.

I really enjoy watching how all of the these tasks are accomplished.  I hope you've enjoyed watching with me.

Best,
Lois

Lois, yes it was interesting to see how the gas canisters are loaded aboard the Majesty, but the barbecue would have been the place for me!

Quite a bit of behind the scene work goes on...some, that one wouldn't expect on a cruise ship!

BTW...you are missing out on a few extreme humudity filled muggy dtormy days here in the Cincinnati area! I've been staying in and enjoying it from my windows!!!

Those canisters are huge. Bet they hold a lot of propane! wouldn't mind having one or two of those! I would guess that takes a while to get all those onboard. I'd like to try para-sailing but I'm too chicken...debbie

definitely - yes!

I did enjoy "watching" the loading of the canisters. One usually doesn't get a chance to see behind the scenes!

Hello Lois
Have read all your cruise posts with interest - so much behind the scenes activity going on. I must be more observant next time lol
Actually we're off to Alaska in late August to see what we didn't see on our last cruise 4 years ago. Hopefully I'll get to see and photograph all that 'bts' stuff same as you did.
Well maybe not the gas cylinders for BBQ's - bbqs, sun, warmth - what a nice thought to keep me going for a few more months till spring arrives. 0c/2f outside my door this morning. Cool to say the least!
Take care

Oh Lois, I so enjoy all of your detail of the cruise! Really!
When Jake and I went, Katie was barely two. I missed her sooo much that she was all that I could think of.
So it's really nice reliving the things that I had totally forgotten about.
She is fifteen now. I bet I could enjoy that cruise now!!!!
Love Di ♥

Good morning,

Yes, I've done that barbecue, too, and it is great. Whenever our daughter is cruising with us I go over to the island so she can snorkel and enjoy a little sun while I sit under a palm tree with all of her gear. Since I'm a natural redhead and spend so much time where it is sunny, I don't make a point to go out and sit in it. Under a nice palm tree is good, though. :)

Yes, those canisters are huge. Since Majesty is the supply ship for the island, there is food being prepared over there nearly every day of the week for various ships in the fleet.

These pictures weren't taken behind the scenes. I was standing up on deck 7 forward, the Promenade Deck guest area to take them. Most people don't see this though, because they are busy on the island. I've been going to this island since 1990 so enjoy watching what is happening on board sometimes.

A very warm welcome to both Cathy and Claudia.

Thanks to everyone for stopping by. I enjoy all of your blogs so very much!

Hugs,
Lois

I'm glad you enjoyed my Watery Wednesday blog. I'll have to make sure to come back and visit yours often when I get a chance. How exciting to spend so much time at sea. This really makes me want to take another cruise. :-)

I absolutely love viewing boats and marine life. These shots are fantastic in that it feels as if we are right on board. Thanks for the journey
