Just Say No!

Good morning,

It seems what I am about to show you here should never happen.  No one would be this stupid, right?  No one would try to bring illegal drugs on board a cruise ship, right?

Unfortunately, it does happen and this is what happens next.

I was out walking on Deck 7 of Majesty of the Seas one afternoon as we were ready to pull out of Nassau, Bahamas.  I noticed a few guests looking over the side and took a look myself.

I knew the signs of trouble when I saw the ship's Staff Captain, Hotel Director, the port agent, and local police at the gangway.

Eventually, the Nassau Police officers wearing their crisp white uniforms brought a young man wearing white shorts, a white t-shirt, and flip flops off of the ship.

Documents were provided to the police officers...

...who checked it all before...

...the young man...

...was put into the vehicle on the left to be taken by the Nassau Police.  As they pulled away, the young man facing toward the back of the vehicle in the back seat made the sign of the cross, the ship lines were released...

...and we sailed out of beautiful Nassau after a 34 minute delay.

Since the drugs were found on the young man by gangway security inside the ship while coming on board, he will be put on a plane to Miami (he pays for his own ticket) by Nassau Police where he will be met by US Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other law enforcement.  It will not be fun for him.  Surely someone else with whom he was cruising brought his luggage back to the US.

Royal Caribbean has a zero tolerance policy.

Every cruise is different and this was one of the sad events that made this one different.

Just say no.

Best,
Lois

Goes to show, Lois, that some people will try to get away with something they already know is illegal and dangerous. Good the the ship's officers in their detection and resolution of this issue.

Surely a sad event, but at the same time it is good to see that they find people that does not follow the zero tolerance policy. Have a nice weekend!

Why do these young people do this? Do they think they are above the law. How embarrassing for who ever he was with. It is a shame that people turn to drugs. It just baffles me.

Wow. Dramatic. Too bad this young man had to learn the hard way. Hopefully others who saw the arrest (and read your account) will have learned something that will last a lifetime.

Hey Lois
Sadly this happens way more then we can ever imagine. The reason he was giving the cross was because he knew someone was going to go through all his dirty undies!! LoL
Hope your weekend is good

Good morning,

Yes, sadly, this does happen more often than most people realize. There is a written policy about behavior that includes drugs, intoxication, fighting, etc., that will get those who don't behave put off at the next port. That makes cruising much more pleasant for the rest of us.

Thank you, everyone, for stopping by.

Very best,

Lois
