Gift Yarn Hat and Scarf Patterns - Knit - Part 2 of 2

Good morning,

Here are the patterns for the scarf and hat that were discussed in yesterday's article.

These are super easy patterns and use precious yarn in gorgeous colors.  That's a Win/Win in my book.

I hope you have fun with these,

Lois

Scarf
--------------------------

Materials:

#9 circular needles

Yarn: Norwegian #4 wool, about 1.5 oz. each of 3 colors.

Finished size: 7" x 48"

Gauge: 14 st = 4", 24 rows = 4"

Pattern note: Scarf is worked lengthwise.  It is a basket weave pattern.  The "weaves" change (purl to knit, knit to purl) on the same row as color changes.

First color:

Cast on 195 stitches.

Row 1: K5, P5

Row 2: P5, K5

Repeat rows 1 and 2 of first color ending with row 2 until you run out of the first color yarn.

Second (middle) color:

Join second color at end of row and reverse the knit/purl pattern:

Row 1: P5, K5

Row 2: K5, P5

Repeat rows 1 and 2 of second color ending with row 2 until you run out of the second color yarn.

Third (last) color:

Join third color at end of row and reverse the knit/purl pattern:

Row 1: K5, P5

Row 2: P5, K5

Repeat rows 1 and 2 of third color ending with row 2 until you nearly run out of the third color yarn making sure you have enough to bind off the last row.

Bind off in pattern.

Materials:

#9 circular needles (24"), and #9 dp needles, yarn needle

Yarn: Norwegian #4 wool, about 1.5 oz. each of 2 colors.

Size: Adult Large

Finished size: 24" diameter stretched as worn x 12-1/2 " bottom to top.

Gauge: 14 st = 4", 24 rows = 4"

Pattern note: Hat is worked in the round. Change to dp needles when needed during decreases at top.

First color:

With circular needles, cast on 72 st.

Work in round being careful not to twist. Place marker to mark beginning of round

K4, P4 for 5-1/4" or until you run out of this color yarn

Second color:

Change color at beginning of round.

P4, K4 until you reach 11-1/2" from the beginning.

Begin decreases at top:

Round 1: *P1, P2tog, P1. K1, K2 tog, K1. Repeat from * around. (54 st.) (You now have ribs of 3 purl, 3 knit st.)

Round 2: Knit the knit st, Purl the purl st.

Round 3: *P1, P2 tog, K1, K2 tog. Repeat from * around.

Round 4: Repeat round 2.

Cut yarn 18 " from work, thread into yarn needle and pull thread through remaining st. Pull tight and make a few stitches to hold in place.

Using all the colors of remaining yarn from hat and scarf, make a pom pom and sew in place.

More of my hat and scarf patterns are here.
