Photo Shoot With the Kids

Good morning,

The three youngest grandchildren had a teacher in-service day recently so spent the day with us while their Daddy was at work.

We did several things during the day:  video games (of course!), playing with the dogs, cheeseburgers for lunch, fishing leaves out of the pond and doggie pool, baking and decorating cupcakes, a photo shoot, and ham and cabbage (cool weather comfort food) for dinner.

I had arranged in advance with their Dad that they have their digital cameras with them for our photo tour.  About 11AM when the sun was shining and the temperature was unusually warm for the season, My Honey and I took the three kids for a walk around a couple of blocks in our neighborhood.
 We talked about close shots...
...and how to get into just the right position to get them.

Kate and Alex had a grand time.  I remember when I was their age and my Dad was giving me some photo pointers.  Dad was a professional photographer so I was lucky to be able to learn so much from him.  Back then my brothers and I were warned to be sure to get just the shot we wanted because it got expensive to develop and print lots and lots of pictures.  Now we are only limited by the amount of memory we have in our cameras.  Wow, this is fun!
Kate and Alex learned to look up for a pretty shot...
...and to zoom...
 ...frame and focus...
...and use the flash even in the sunlight.
All you have to do is look...
...and you will see images to capture...
 ...everywhere!
We came around the block and talked about depth of focus, color (the neighbor's tree is gorgeous here, isn't it!), bright areas, dark areas, and even hidden interest (that's Grandpa and brother David on the sidewalk far left).  Yes, Kate and Alex understood all of this! Not every image is perfect, but the ones that aren't make great teaching tools.
We crossed the street to walk past Xavier University...
 ...and take pictures...
...of their colorful trees before the leaves are gone.
And, finally, back home.  Soon there will be many more leaves to rake at our home, too!

The kids took their cameras home that evening and their Dad downloaded them onto their own computers.  Dad's a computer geek, too, so is helping them with formatting their images.

This was such a fun day!  I hope you enjoyed our photo shoot with the kids.

Best,
Lois

You'll have to have them send you their photos so we can see what interested them! That would be great! Loved your walk, very pretty. Sounds like all of you had a very busy and fun day! ...debbie

Good for you for taking the kids photo-opping. Never too young to learn, nor are we ever "too old" to learn something new.

What a great way to spend the day with your grandchildren, Lois. We're planning to get our grandson a small digital camera too this year. Enjoyed seeing what everyone else "saw."

Good morning,

Yes, this was a really, really productive day. The kids are at just the right age to get a good start on taking pictures. They are such fun kids. They've had quite couple of years of changes in the family, moves, and school changes. They are strong kids, happy kids. I'm so proud of them and love spending time with them.

Thanks, everyone, for stopping by.

Very best,
Lois
