Ducks on the Oconaluftee River

 Good morning,

While in Cherokee, North Carolina, we spent a late afternoon capturing images of ducks on the Oconaluftee River.
Although we've seen people fishing in this spot,  today we were the only people here.
The river is very shallow, yet wide.  There is a hotel on the other side of the river with balconies overlooking the water.
When we arrived the ducks came immediately to investigate us.  We suspect they were used to being fed.
This fellow was busy looking at himself.  It appears he walks on water, but he is standing on a log just beneath the surface of the water.
 His lady was nearby.
 Is that really me?
The afternoon sun cast beautiful rays across the river.
This row of rocks out into the water was surely used by fishermen...
...but preening ducks were in residence today.
This was a picture post card day.
We've been here on other occasions when there were several people fishing from this pier.
 The water was crystal clear.
He's preening;  she's searching for food.
A beautiful place for a picnic.  I'm sure those eating here are joined by the ducks looking for handouts.
Suddenly there was a flutter and more ducks checked in for the night.
We've been here at different times of the year.  This time was especially pretty.

I hope you've enjoyed our evening here.

Very best,
Lois

Hi Lois, looks like you had a lovely time duck watching at the river. here in Norcross, my cousins's condo has a balcony overlooking a man-made pond and watching the ducks has been a daily treat during our visit. The males have been courting the females and are very protective.

Good morning,

We have never been disappointed with the photo opportunities in Cherokee at any time of the year. We love that place and the people who live there are just wonderful.

Debbie, we made it home in time for a great Thanksgiving and those images are to come. The images of our week on board Freedom of the Seas and the travel in the Smokies are in chronological order, but slightly delayed by a few days.

While on board Freedom I couldn't upload images until we got to a US port where I had my Verizon connection. I took pictures every day and formatted them, wrote about them, and put them in Dreamweaver where I write other parts of my web site. Then I uploaded them to blogger when I got to a connection where I could do so. Although I had 24/7 email on board, the satellite connection timed out before I could upload images.

Thank you so much, everyone, for stopping by.

Very best,
Lois

What wonderful photos. I used to live across the road from a duck pond, and I can't resist duck pictures! I particularly love that one guy with his reflection.
Looks like a lovely place to visit.
