Philipsburg, St. Maarten, Dutch West Indies

Good morning,

Today I am featuring the images we took as we walked through the old town of Philipsburg, St. Maarten, Dutch West Indies.  Yesterday we took the water taxi to get here from the cruise ship port (see yesterday's post).  As we stepped off of the water taxi, we saw this map of St. Maarten in the sidewalk.
I looked directly through a row of palms and saw the old court house.
We decided to walk down the beach first and immediately saw a little bit of home.  Yes, that's an Ohio State University flag there and Aunt Carol is standing under the OSU Buckeyes Avenue street sign.  Go Bucks!
Looking out to sea we could see our huge ship across the bay.
Looking down the beach we saw the contrast of the sea, the umbrellas, the banana boat ride.  All so pretty!
It was so very hot down on the beach that we walked one block back into the city.  Catherine and I have been here before.  If you are shopping for jewelry, you will find it here.  It seems every other store is a jewelry store.
We came across a wonderful kite store with kites of every kind and color.  We could still just see our ship out there, at the left edge of this image.
We moved into the old section of Philipsburg.
The vintage yellow car is part of the decorative setting.
Store merchandise spills out into the street on tables and restaurant tables meet them on the other side.  We went into quite a few of the stores, Carol and Catherine made some purchases, then we decided it was hot enough for us to head back to the air conditioning of our mother ship.
As we rode the water taxi back to the cruise ship dock we passed another water taxi going the other way.
We were soon back on board Freedom with a few purchases from the city.  My favorite souvenirs are these images.  I hope you enjoy them, too.

Best,
Lois

Enjoyed catching up on your cruise, Lois, as I am away from home this week and without internet access until a stop at a wi-fi place today. Loved seeing the ice skating show pics and water slide and the elegant dining...WOW just being aboard ship is an adventure without ever going to see sights in Phillipsburg, St Maarten, which were wonderful too!

Good morning,

Yes, this ship and the ports are terrific.

Beatrice, I understand the problems getting on line. I can't get most other blogs to load because they time out before the pages load. That's why I stop in on Sundays when I have my Verizon tower cell connection in a US port.

At the end of the month we will be on our way home to enjoy the Fall colors (and Internet connection!) there before we return to sea.

Thank you, ladies, for stopping by.

Very best,
Lois
