Toensberg Hotel

Good morning,

We arrived at our hotel in our rental car and unloaded our own luggage in front of the hotel.  We chose this hotel because of the location right on the water in downtown Toensberg.
Hotels are very different in Scandinavia than they are in the USA.  This is a Quality Inn franchise, but is much more elegant (except for the room) than what we think of as a Quality Inn at home.  This hotel was built in 2007.
I'm showing you the bathroom first.  Keep in mind that we paid almost twice as much as we would at a Hampton Inn in the USA.  This shower (no tub) is hanging on the wall next to the toilet.  There is a plexiglass door that is pulled out to separate the shower between the shower and toilet.  Water drains through the center of the floor.  You can't see it here, but the roll of toilet paper is on the wall on the right side of the picture.   It is so close to the toilet seat that you cannot sit down without your leg hitting the metal toilet roll cover no matter how slim you are.
It's hard to see in the image above, but the plexiglass door is open up against the side of the toilet.
On the opposite side of the bathroom is the wash basin with very limited space for your toiletries.  You see towels on the wall, but don't expect to find a wash cloth.  They aren't provided here.
The room itself is very small, especially considering the price we paid.  This is a queen size bed.  There is no top sheet.  You receive two comforters covered with a sheet-like material.  There was only one extra bed pillow on the shelving.  We surely could have asked for another, but we were roughing it.  ;)  Lighting was extremely low and not strong enough to read.

On the positive side, the room and bathroom were very clean.  Of course, we brought converter plugs to charge our phones and computers.

And, now for the real winner!  There is no air conditioning in this hotel in Southern Norway.  It was an extremely hot day that we arrived.  There is no exhaust fan in the room, but we could open the window.  Yes, it was hot!  The weather cooled off after the first day of our week-long stay.

We looked at each other, laughed, and decided we were roughing it.  We agreed, "We'll get used to it."

And, we did.  ;)

Tomorrow I'll show you the restaurant at the hotel.  It is much nicer than the room.

Lois

Interesting! I wouldn't think Norway would have really hot weather.

Not bad for a hotel, normally there is mould around the shower.

Very interesting to see...and the pillows look so flat compared to what we see. Is that just me or are they thinner?

The places we stayed in Ireland were really small too. After an adjustment period, we fell in love with that country.

That is really different from North American hotels for sure.

Rose: Yes, the pillows are very thin. There was only one extra one on the shelving. We could have asked for another, but were so tired when we got back to the room we roughed it. ;)

This room was very similar to others where we have stayed in Scandinavia.
