Cincinnati, OH to Columbia, SC - Road Trip

Good morning,

Yes, we are on the road again and will soon be back at sea.  These images are of the first leg of our road trip from Cincinnati to Port Canaveral.

The image above is the new entrance to Xavier University.  Since we literally live around the corner, we have watched the building progress on the campus.  The new entrance is just beautiful.
We started South...
...through downtown Cincinnati....
...and a couple of hours later stopped for brunch in Kentucky.
This trip I was delighted to be able to get pictures of the Kentucky quilt patterns on barns.
I had to do a lot of cropping, but the patterns are visible.

Those images were taken as we were sailing along at 70 mph.

The story behind the Kentucky Quilt Patterns is here.
It has been cold in Kentucky and there was ice frozen on the rocks beside the road.
We were absolutely delighted to see the State of Tennessee celebrates Christmas.  This image was taken in the new Welcome Center on I75 South.  So beautiful!
And, here we are approaching the Blue Ridge Mountains again.
We had driven from Ohio, through Kentucky and Tennessee, now through North Carolina to South Carolina.

Here we are passing under the Blue Ridge Parkway.  We had toured the Parkway very recently (pictures here.)
And, I'll leave you today with an image of the evening sky.  All day had been overcast with what My Honey called "snow clouds." Those clouds cleared just at the end of the day for this beautiful view.

We enjoyed a dinner at the Texas Road House and spent the night in Columbia, South Carolina.

Tomorrow we will travel to St. Augustine, Florida.  I hope you'll join us. :)

Very best,
Lois

I love the Blue Ridge Parkway! Granted I haven't been much further south on it than Virginia but still... It looks like you are having so much fun! Love the quilts on the barns!

...looks like our route to Hilton Head, SC. Loved the Welcome station in Tenn--very Christmassy! We have a blanket of snow here in Cincy this morning. You're lucky you're escaping to the warmth!

The quilt barns are very interesting. I had not heard of them before. I'm looking forward to seeing the holiday celebrations aboard ship.

Hi Lois, you certainly are doing a lot of travelling this year - more than we have in the past couple of months! But, then we couldn't compete with your adventures. Have a safe drive to FL and where will you be celebrating the holidays?

Good morning,

Yes, we just missed the snow and cold in Ohio, that's for sure. Excellent timing, right? Not really, just the luck of the draw....

Beatrice, we'll be celebrating the holdiays on board Freedom of the Seas. I hope to have some good images of Christmas and New Years on board. The ship is always packed for the holidays; it is a great way for families who live great distances from each other to enjoy the holidays together and no one has to was the dishes.

Welcome, Frank. We're glad to have you on board. ;)

Thank you to everyone for stopping by.

Very best,
Lois

I really like the quilt patterns on the barns! It would be fun to see how many one could spot on a road trip.
