Warm Days, Chilly Nights of October

Good morning,

That young man on the scooter is Alex, who you may recognize as "shark boy" from a few months ago.

On this October afternoon I picked up my son's four children at their various schools, took them to their home, and stayed with them until their Dad got home from work.

The day was so gorgeous that Alex was immediately outside on his scooter.  Here comes older sister Katie behind him.
Alex is a natural when Granny pulls out a camera.  :)  Is he darling or what!  OK, I'm very opinionated about that....
Katie and a friend took off toward home...
...as Alex took off once again....
...to ride back and forth for nearly an hour...
...while I sat on the front porch and cast on another hat that will soon be welcome on a cold winter day.
Back home my honey, the leaf blower man, was hard at work...
 ...blowing leaves into a pile...
...so that I could put them into a compost bin.  ;)
And this is a wonderful dinner to enjoy a chilly evening in October.  This is My Honey's Fårikål - Norwegian Lamb and Cabbage Stew. Oh, it's so good!  The house smells wonderful all day as lamb, cabbage, and whole peppercorns are cooked slowly on the cook top all day.  We served it with my fresh bread, but the usual way to serve it is with boiled potatoes.

It is wonderful to be home.

Very best,
Lois

October is my favorite month Lois! And you're right Alex is very handsome! Your day seemed to be the perfect fall day to me, and that dinner looks delicious. I've been craving stuffed cabbage lately!

Yes, the kids are so cute! Nice to see them outdoors riding and playing instead of inside on their computers! I love sitting on the front porch watching the kids play. Like the blue of your new hat. Your lamb stew looks pretty good. My memories of lamb however are not good. I haven't had it in YEARS, not since I was a kid and I didn't like it then. I'd probably like it now. But will never know, unless I order it out someplace. Doubt I'll ever buy lamb...debbie

Very cute grandchildren, Lois. We have had some nice balmy days, but that storm today sure brought in the cold!

Great fall day post, Lois, from kids playing outdoors, leaf blowing, and a dinner waiting to be enjoyed. Did your honey also cook dinner and could you post the recipe as Grenville does enjoy lamb and might want to try this one. (thanks). We got home this evening and YES it is great to be home, even if catching up will take a few days.

It doesn't take a proud grandma to see that Alex is a little darling!

Good morning,

Yes, the kids did have a good time outdoors. We are traveling again right now and I am glad I have some good pics still from home that were taken while the weather was really nice. I have a few more to come, too.

Beatrice, the recipe is so simple for the lamb and cabbage. I believe this batch was two heads of cabbage, about 2 pounds of lamb with most of the fat removed first, and a palm full of pepper corns. Let it simmer all day and enjoy that evening. Yum!

River, it doesn't take anything at all to compost except to put the stuff where it gets air and water. If you turn it once in awhile the process goes faster.

I hope everyone is safe at home. I hear the storm yesterday was terrible.

Thank you, everyone, for stopping by.

Very best,
Lois

Oh, Lois, I just tossed it there in an old pot and then in a bag. No water and no air. No wonder it doesn't work!

haha!

Okay, I'd better go see to that stuff I have back there. I mean, I am reasonably intelligent, I should be able to "get this".
