Olive or Twist - Gorgeous Glass

Good morning,

High atop the Freedom of the Seas cruise ship is the Viking Crown Lounge.  This lounge is a signature of Royal Caribbean since the very beginning when there was a Viking Crown atop the first ship, Song of Norway
The tiny lounge atop that first ship has certainly grown up and matured on board the ships built for the company since then.
On the largest ships, the Viking Crown includes several different venues in the large circular structure 15 decks above the sea.
This is the Olive or Twist portion of the Viking Crown.  It's a popular spot at night, but I enjoyed being here during the day to be able to move around, admire, and capture images of the beautiful glass spheres.  One of them is in the foreground of the above picture.
Each of these is individual...
...and absolutely gorgeous.
They remind me of the glass My Honey and I saw for sale in Venice, Italy.
And, perhaps that is where they were made.  I will have to see if I can find someone who knows.

They also make me think of my friend, Lynn, at Olive Knitting who does beautiful bead work.  Have you seen these before Lynn?

Tomorrow I'll still be wandering the ship with camera in hand.  I hope you'll all still be here with me to see where I will go next.

Very best,
Lois

I'm just totally enjoying "touring" this ship with you!

How great that all us readers are continuing to share in your exploration of this ship. However, based on its size and the fact that there is so much to see (and do) it may take quite awhile for all of us to complete the tour. You might even have to return for another one :-)

Your photo tour is the ONLY look at a cruise ship hubby and I will ever have. He swore off of ships after sailing to Okinawa in 1953. It was not a pleasant experience. Said he'd never get on another ship, ever, and hasn't - and won't. I'm not much for getting on a cruise ship either, but have loved your photos of a very beautiful one!

The glass globes are really pretty. I like the first one the best in the series. Appears to be a fun place to sit at night and enjoy one's self...maybe one day...debbie

Those glass spheres are gorgeous. It's the added touches like these that give the ship character. I'm glad you visited here in the daytime so we could see these.

By the way, Lois, Grenville wanted to know when you will give a photo tour of the engine room and the bridge and he wondered if you will get to steer.

I am trying to imagine how gigantic this ship must be... I can't, but thank you so much for taking us with you on the cruise! Rally! It's amazing.

Good morning,

There are more glass globes up there in the Olive or Twist than I photographed. They are all so pretty; and, when you walk around them, they are very different on every side.

I'm glad you're all having fun with us on board Freedom. Yes, we will be here for a long time - until the end of September. So, I'll have plenty more pictures and more detail of what is happening here.

Montanagirl, I understand about those who have served in the Navy and don't want to return to sea on anything that floats at all. I have heard that many times before and understand. My Honey served in the Norwegian Navy, merchant ships, and now has been at sea for 44 years in total. I think we are out here for the duration of our natural lives. :)

Beatrice and Grenville, I have wanted to send you an email, but haven't been able to find your email address.

Thanks, everyone, for stopping by.

Very best,
Lois

Those globes are goreous...but I do have a biased attraction to glass art! How big are they?

I'm really enjoying this tour of the ship as I catch up on my reading this Sunday morning. Whenever my husband and I travel we try to find a "local guide", someone who lives in the place and knows all the little interesting corners that others miss. You are definitely a great local guide for cruise ship for this person who's never stepped foot on one! thank you. keep the photos coming!
