Cable Knit Hat

Good Morning,

Here is the hat to match the scarf posted yesterday.

Cable Knit Hat

Hat is made from bottom up.

Size:  Adult Large:  stretches to 24" for snug fit.

Gauge in pattern slightly stretched:  4" = 28 stitches, 4" = 28 rows

Materials:  4 oz. knitting worsted weight #4 yarn.  I used Lion Brand Wool-Ease.

One set each size 9 circular and double pointed needles.

Cable needle.

Yarn needle.

Hat:

With circular needle, cast on 108 stitches, join being careful not to twist.  Place marker at beginning of round.

Round 1 - 7:   k6, p6

Round 8:  (cable round) *slip 3 knit stitches on cable needle, hold forward, knit the next 3 stitches, then the stitches from the cable needle.  p the next 6 p stitches.  Repeat from * to marker at beginning of round.

Repeat rounds 1 - 8 for 10.5" or desired length ending with round 4.

Decrease for crown:

Change to double pointed needles when necessary.

Decrease round 1:  knit the knit stitches.  For each set of 6 purl stitches, decrease as follows:  p2 tog, p2, p2 tog (4 purl stitches remain)

Decrease round 2:  knit the knit stitches, purl the purl stitches

Decrease round 3:  knit the knit stitches.  For each set of 4 purl stitches, decrease as follows:  p2 tog twice. (2 purl stitches remain)

Decrease round 4:  knt the knit stitches, purl the purl stitches

Decrease round 5:  knit the knit stitches, purl the 2 purl stitches together (1 purl stitch remains)

Decrease round 6:  knit the knit stitches, purl the purl stitches

Cut yarn 18" from work, thread yarn needle and thread through remaining stitches.

Pull tight and sew a few stitches to keep in place.

Make a pompom and sew in place.
