Is This Legal in Kentucky?

Good morning,

This won't be a pleasant post, but I have to ask the question:  Is this legal in Kentucky?

See that red truck up there?  Look carefully and you'll see two dogs in the back.  They are loose, wandering around the back of the truck moving about 70 mph in 28 degree F weather.
They are fairly large dogs and we could tell by the white on the face of the black one and the way they both moved that they were both old dogs.
This is in Northern Kentucky where the traffic was moderate to heavy.
The truck is on an exit ramp here.  We could only hope the dogs would be rescued from their dangerous situation soon.

Does anyone know if this is legal in Kentucky?

I see it all the time here in Oklahoma. Some people just don't think.

I don't know but irresponsible pet owners drive me crazy!

It shouldn't be if it is. They do that too in Southwest Wisconsin.

It's illegal here but I know people who do it.

It may even be legal, but it is careless or worse...

I hate to see this...these same people most likely let their kids ride in the back too! YIKES!!!

It's sad to see, but it takes time to change attitudes. Child seats weren't required in my childhood time and now most parents have booster seats in their cars well beyond the early baby seats we first saw. There is a strong movement to educate people not only about not letting them ride in the back of trucks, but the need to provide safe restraints while riding in the car.

In Texas they even haul kids around in the beds of trucks! And it's probably legal!

I don't know about being legal, but I live in Kentucky and I see it all the time. It drives me crazy too! I just don't understand people.

Hi I am back...after making my comment on this...I went out to run some errands and right in front of me was a truck with a dog riding in the open bed. Guess it's legal here in Ga.or maybe they were breaking the law!

Don't know about the legality here on the VA eastern shore, Lois, or even Kentucky. But, here folks do ride with dogs in back of pickups as sad as that is.

Got lots of comments...don't know if it is legal. I would be scared to death to have my dog in the back of a truck, specially on the main highway.

I used to love to ride in the back of a truck...but in much different situations to now. This was 37-8 years ago...not on any busy road.

That being said, I would not let my kids ride the way I did for love nor money.
