Dixieland Jazz Cruise - Part 3 of 3

Good morning,

We are ready to push away from the dock for our Dixieland Jazz Cruise aboard the River Queen.
Directly across the Ohio River from us is downtown Cincinnati and the Great American Ball Park, home of the Cincinnati Reds.
It was a picture post card day.  :)
By now we had already eaten our lunch and were out and about on the outer decks taking pictures.
Suddenly a helicopter passed over the river and landed nearby.  You can take an air tour of Cincinnati by helicopter if you wish.  We prefer to be on the river.  :)
The gangway has been raised and we are pulling out...
 ...past the Belle of Cincinnati.
 On back!
Suddenly the terminal building and the Belle of Cincinnati look much smaller.
And, now we can get a full view of downtown Cincinnati without another boat in the scene.
This is the Show Boat Majestic.  It has provided shows on the river for more years than I can count.  I do remember my much older brother taking his date there while he was going to the University of Cincinnati.  My brother would be 80 years old this year.
On the bridge are markers to tell river pilots how many feet are between the water the the bridge.
As you pass below, you can hear the sounds of the cars and trucks passing over the bridge as a humming noise.
This is Mount Adams, named for President Adams.  Atop is the Church of the Immaculata.  It is gloriously beautiful inside.  In the foreground near the river is the Boat House, a popular restaurant.

We are on the third deck here looking down at a couple enjoying the view with each other and a glass of wine.
And, here's Captain Frank who was kind enough to consent to a picture.

We had a fabulous cruise aboard the River Queen.  I hope you've enjoyed going along with us.

All the best,
Lois

So many fabulous photos. I wonder if any of the Reds hit the ball into the river? Agree prefer the cruise to the chopper. Thank for the trip!

What fun! When we lived in Alaska, we road the Riverboat Discovery. A great experience. Our daughter worked on it for several years.

Great pictures-as usual. On the second-to-last one, as you looked down, is that the gangway carried along? If so, is it customary with the riverboats?

Hi Everyone,

Peter, no, I don't know of any balls being hit into the river from the stadium. ;)

Barbara, yes, the gangway is taken along on steamboats. That is the custom. Steamboats didn't always tie up at docks so the gangway was needed when a steamboat would pull into the riverbank. That happened in 1989 while my Dad and I were aboard the Delta Queen and there was bad weather. We pulled up to the shore and tied the Delta Queen up to trees on the riverbank on the Kentucky side just at dusk. I was standing on deck watching the crew tie up the boat when a young boy came down the hill quite surprised to see the Delta Queen. One of the men on deck yelled, "Go tell your Mom you have company for dinner!" Of course, the man wasn't serious, but the look on the boy's face was priceless.

Thanks, everyone, for stopping by and for your kind comments.

All the best,
Lois

Great idea for a cruise and lovely photos, Lois. All we needed was a soundtrack to make the virtual tour complete :-)
