Kentucky Road Trip

Good morning,

Above is the new "front door" of Xavier University, very close to our home and we are headed out of town.  Yes, we are on the road again.   This trip, though, it is not to go to a port to board a ship.

For My Honey's birthday we took a road trip to Kentucky.  We are on our way to Bardstown to enjoy some good food and visit some historical sites.  We were there a few years ago and knew we wanted to return so this is a great time to do it.

I made a reservation for three nights at the Hampton Inn and we have a general idea of what we will do there, but no specific plans.
We're in Kentucky already...
...and cruising along I-75 South with others on their way for some fun.
It wasn't long before we were in horse country near Lexington, Kentucky.
These horse farms are huge!
The horses bred here are ones that run in the famous Kentucky races.
I have no clue what this castle is.  Perhaps you do?
We are on the Blue Grass Parkway on the way to Bardstown.
I believe this is another entrance to the same farm.
Versailles, KY.  Yes, this is horse country all right.
We crossed the Kentucky River...
...and are well into the rolling hills of Kentucky...
where you find many horses going down the road.  :)
There is a barn up on that hill hiding behind the trees.
I took the image of these two homes as we were passing at about 55 mph.  It appears the owners have built the new home right next door to the old one.  There is even a little similarity to the design.

We built in flexibility for this trip and used it well.  I hope you'll join us again tomorrow as we take a little tour over toward the Lincoln Trail.

All the best,
Lois

Programming note:  We are on board a ship at sea when this post will appear.  Although I have email 24/7 at sea and your comments will appear this week, I am only able to upload images on Sundays when I have a fast enough connection with enough band width.  So, this week will be posts of activities just before we left home for the ship.   Ship images coming next week.  Enjoy!   :)   -LAE

Love Kentucky's horse country! I have never been to Kentucky, but it might be worth considering! I'm a horse lover from way back.

It's Kentucky's Premier Luxury Tourist Inn, Lois. I googled it for you.

Lexington, Kentucky home builder, Rex Martin(rich from the "coal boom") built it 25 years ago. He and his new bride honeymooned in Europe, where she fell in love with castles. Upon their return, he built the castle, but they divorced before it's completion.

Hi Everyone,

Yes, that was a wonderful trip. I have so many great images of places we visited, too. We are on the ship now so I have quite an overlap of images from home, on the way here, and here. It'll all work out. ;)

Thank you, Wanda, for looking up that castle for us! What a shame that the people who built such a "romantic" place didn't have a long lasting marriage. :\

Thanks to all for stopping by and for your very kind comments.

All the best from out here in the Caribbean where we are having a very rocky sea day going around yet another storm.

Lois :)

Lois it looks like the castle of the Thomas R. Post family. It is a luxury hotel from what I can tell. If it's the same one that I found online. Very beautiful as is Kentucky. Enjoy your cruisin'!! Love Di ♥
