Raccoon Lunch

Good morning,

This series of images of the masked bandit was taken at Viera Wetlands, near Melbourne, Florida, on one of our recent visits there.
We stood nearby while this guy came out of the brush beside the lake...
...to raid a nest of eggs...
...to take them back into the brush to devour.
We believe he was raiding a nest of turtle eggs.
Our presence standing nearby didn't seem to bother him at all.
 End of story!

All the best,
Lois

Ah, that little bandit! But I guess everything has to eat. It boils down to survival of the fittest.

I always wish everything was a herbivore!

When you isolate them like this in an image, it really shows you how they are trying to survive in their own world.

Love the pictures! Kind of sad about the turtles though. I guess that's how it goes in nature. A raccoon has to eat.

They are so cute, but mean when I have run across them in the barn!! Yikes!

I hope that you were standing far enough away so as not be in danger if all of a sudden that guy changed his mind. Great series!

It is tough to see the turtle eggs destroyed, but I suppose that in nature we shouldn't take sides of one animal over another.

Oh he's a cutie! I like to see them like this in the wild not stealing cat food off my mom's front porch.
