Octopus at the Newport Aquarium

Good morning,

Here are a few more images from the Newport (Kentucky) Aquarium.  My Honey and I enjoyed being tourists at a tourist spot close to home.

We were welcome to take pictures at the aquarium, but upon entering, everyone was asked not to use flash when photographing the octopus.  "It scares him," we were told.  Of course, we didn't want to scare him.  He is certainly a beautiful guy!  We watched him for a long time as he explored one side of his habitat, then moved through a tube to the other side.  What a fascinating creature.
Around the corner this turtle was having lunch.  I wonder if he realizes how nice it is to have someone prepare his meals for him.
I used two different cameras just to see what I could do with each one in the low light:  my Canon 50D and my Powershot SX210 IS (my baby camera.) Needless to say, my 50D takes much better images, but the baby camera certainly is convenient.
We enjoyed taking the time to watch the behavior of the fish as one type helped clean another.
Every time I see this prehistoric character in such places as this, on the History Channel, or in books, I think of the Loch Ness Monster.  There are plenty of images here.  You decide!

So, these are a few more images from the Newport Aquarium. I hope you enjoyed our trip there with us.

Very best,
Lois

And, check out Camera Critters!

I LOVE fun stuff to do that's close to home AND I DO LOVE aquariums!!! Poor Octopus, I wonder how many times he heard the word Calamari? I think that made him MORE nervous than flashes, hehe... LOVE your picture of him!!!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Hugs, Donna

That shot of the octopus is great. I love aquariums and always shoot lots of pics. I had to laugh. Your "baby" camera is my "good" camera.

There was an aquarium in the northwest where one could put their hand in and pet the octopus, had to be careful and it was a small one less then a couple feet across.

The new little compact cameras now take as good of pictures as the big fancy ones, just do not have all the controls on the compacts or lens interchangeability.

Lorelei would enjoy this place...we took her to the zoo last fall thinking she would be crazy about elephants, etc....no...it was these sharks and some lizard type animals. Oh, and the chickens....she loves chickens.

Very cool octopus! We got an year pass to our aquarium, and I take the boys A LOT. We just have a regular pink octopus, though, an he's usually stuck to a corner. :-)

Fun shots! Love the shot of the octopus. I'm not surprised they are easily frightened. I LOVE being a tourist in my own "backyard." It's amazing how much we miss if we don't open our eyes the way tourists do. :)

Good morning,

Yes, this was a fun trip to the Aquarium. We got lots of good pictures and had a good time doing it. We are due for another local outing to take pictures soon, too, before we head South again.

Thank you, everyone, for stopping by and your kind comments.

Very best,
Lois

Cool shot of the octopus. I saw one at the aquarium in Seattle and it almost spooked me out. He was being fed while we were there. They are big guys. I carry a little Canon point and shoot with me all the time and take my Rebel when I have planned ahead. Nice series.
