Inside Krohn Conservatory, Cincinnati, Ohio

Good morning,

Today's images were taken inside the Krohn Conservatory in Cincinnati, Ohio.  The butterfly bench above is the focal point for many family pictures, including ours when we were here with the kids a year or so ago.
This gift shop in the lobby area has grown over the years from selling just a few plants to selling quite a few gardening supplies and related items.  I suppose it tells my age when I say I remember when there was no gift shop here at all.  ;)
There's that handsome man again.  ;)
This is the waterfall in the center part of the Conservatory.  I remember visiting here many, many times as a child.  It's such fun to be able to walk through the cave behind the waterfall.
Look up!  Bananas!

I think some of these huge fish have probably been here as long as I have been visiting.

And, so ended another wonderful photo visit to the Krohn Conservatory.

As always, click to enlarge the images.

Enjoy!

Lilacs in Bloom

Good morning,

I wish I could share the wonderful aromas with these images today.
I planted this Common Lilac Bush in front of our home about 30 years ago and it never ceases to delight us each Spring.
Each of these images is even more beautiful when enlarged.  Just click on them.  ;)

More Tulips at Home

Good morning,

The tulips last a long time in our garden because we have several varieties that bloom at slightly different times.  Back when I was home all the time to plant them, I had them arranged so they would bloom in succession and the new blooms would cover those that were fading.
These tulips are at the base of the magnolia tree in our front garden that I featured here a few days ago.

This leaning tulip is leaning against the trunk of a volunteer Red Bud Tree on the other side in the front of the house.  I believe the tulip bulbs were in the ground before the tree began to grow here.
There is a story behind these "black" tulips (they are really very dark purple), too.  Our Cincinnati Park Commission gives away bulbs that have already bloomed and are being replaced at the end of each season.  It is a first come-first served give away.  A friend of mine picked up some bulbs and ended up with more than she could use so gave me these.  That was about 15 years ago and these pretties are still blooming.  I think it is wonderful that the bulbs removed are given to those of us who will enjoy them instead of being tossed into a compost pile.
I know the title of this post as to do with tulips, but for a little variety, here is an image of Sir Winston Churchill Daffodils that are quite fragrant.  These bloom much later than the King Alfred Daffodils and many of the more popular types.

Ah, Spring!

Enjoy,
Lois

Meeting The Nicest People

Good morning,

While sitting in front of Krohn Conservatory on a park bench taking a break and reorganizing our camera equipment I spotted a gentleman walking toward us with a tripod strapped to his back, camera bag over his shoulder, and camera in hand.

"Look, Honey," I said, "here comes another one."
I'll so you mine if you show me yours!

The three of us were immediately in conversation about cameras when I stepped away and asked, "Mind if I take your picture?  This will come to a blog near you...."
"Sure, no problem."  And, they went about discussing their Canon cameras, settings, sunlight....

Photographers are such nice people, aren't they?

Lois

Programming Note:  Since the above pictures were taken, we have been on the road again and have arrived on board Freedom of the Seas in Port Canaveral.  While on board we only have our personal Internet connections with enough band width to upload images and get into most other blogs while we are in US ports.  For now, that means on Sundays.  I took lots of pictures on the way to Florida and will take lots of Freedom of the Seas and all the changes that were made while she was in dry dock.  Blog posts will still be daily, but they will lag by a few days from the date the pictures are taken.   Please stand by for some great pictures from the high seas.  ;)   -LAE

Big Brown Puppy Dog Eyes

Good morning,

As I sat at my desk reading your blogs and writing comments, I felt a gentle nudge on my arm.  When I turned to look, this is what I saw so I had to share the image with you.

Sure, Erik, it's time to have some mommie-doggie time.  :)

What a sweetheart!

More Ohio Farms

Good morning,

Here are a few more images of Ohio farms.

I have seen the farm above many, many times as I drove between Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio, throughout the years I was attending meetings at the Ohio Society of CPAs in Dublin, Ohio.  It's along I-71 where it isn't easy to stop to get a better picture from the road.

What is so unique is the cook house barely seen between the main house and the silo to the right.  The home is obviously quite old and the separate cook house with matching decorative roof was built just outside the back door of the house.  Since many years ago the meals were cooked with open flame, it was for fire safety that the cooking was done in a separate building.  Obviously, this farm has modernized through the years, but the beautiful home and cook house remain.
More large farms...
...on the beautiful Ohio farm land.
This is another view of the Bicentennial Barn that I posted earlier.  It also carries a religious message.
It was so cold that these horses wore coats.  How stylish and sensible.  ;)
And, another shot of the 4H Barn.
There are some in need of repair...
 ...but most are well kept.

Our plan for the next time we are home when it is warmer is to take a back roads trip to capture more images of farms.
