Where the Deer and the Labradors Play

Good morning,

I had to zoom my phone camera to get most of these images. 

That handsome young buck was standing in the yard diagonally behind our own early one morning this week.

We have deer in the wooded areas nearby and once in the past 40 years we have seen a doe and fawn in our yard, so this is not a common occurrence so close to our homes.

This young fellow seemed lost.  He didn't seem too concerned about our dogs barking at him, though.

It was due to our dogs barking that we went outside to see what it was all about.  Wendy was determined to "protect" us from this creature.

The buck flipped his tail a couple of times, then wandered off between the houses to the next block. 

Wendy kept an eye on him until he was gone.  We hope he didn't get near the high traffic street just three houses away.

Until recently, the property on the other side of our fence was completely forested so Wendy would never have seen the deer.  The new owners have removed all of the trees and underbrush.  They are remodeling the property and will surely landscape the property beautifully.

Comfort Food

Good morning,

Sometimes we just need a good cheeseburger.  I tried having one at Bob Evans earlier this week and was somewhat disappointed.  Of course, that drove me to make a really, really good one at home. 

There's always a reason to have a good cheeseburger.

It's Tradition - New Year's Eve Dinner

Good morning,

Sometimes I am not quite sure where the traditions originated, but we continue to enjoy them year after year.  I'm sure every family has similar traditions.

For us, New Years Eve dinner was prime rib, steamed cabbage, scalloped potatoes, and corn casserole.  That was one week ago tonight.  I sure could enjoy the same menu tonight!

This fabulous meal was prepared for us by daughter, Catherine.

Happy Birthday Elsa!

Good morning,

Our Baby Elsa turned one year old yesterday.  What a wonderful year it has been and what fabulous years we have ahead of us with her.  She is such a sweetheart! Cake image courtesy of Catherine.

Needlework and Wood Working Update - January 2020

Good morning,

We have had a very busy month in the wood workshop and needlework studio!

I love these signs!  Kjell made this one for our Elsa and...

...this one for our friend Erica, Tumble's Mom. 

This gorgeous detailed engraved wedding or anniversary gift is now available in the shop.  Kjell made one of these and we gave it as a wedding gift.  It was so loved that we decided to make another for the shop.  $180.  Click here for more images and information.

This is something that Kjell made for us as just a fun project.  We didn't have our live floor-to-ceiling Christmas tree this year because we have that area of the living room set up for our senior pup, Penny, who no longer can climb stairs.  She used to come upstairs to be with us each evening and sleep in our bedroom all night, but now can only roam the first floor and back yard. Rather than displace her for a tree, we decided to forego the tree this year.  So, this tree graced our recreation room for the holidays.

 This is a beautiful piece that Kjell made as our Christmas card on line.  It will be displayed in our home on the holidays for years to come.

My Honey makes the most beautiful gifts for me!  I just love this!  What a sweetheart! It is already hanging in our kitchen.

This gorgeous engraved wall art piece is new in the shop this month.  The first one sold within an hour and more have been ordered.  As soon as the orders are filled, more will be made for the shop. 

This wool blend heavy, cuddly, warm capelet poncho is the perfect way to keep your shoulders and neck warm while having free movement of your arms.  Catherine, my beautiful model, wears these in her office to stay toasty while still able to work at her computer.  It's also great for someone confined to a wheelchair to stay warm without a larger garment getting tangled in the chair.  $50.  More images and information here.

I've made a few accessories that can be mixed/matched with the capelet above.  This cloche hat in seaman's hat style can also be used as a chemo cap.  It is so very warm and comfy!  $15.  More images and information here.

This is ribbed hat holds extra warmth and can be worn as a slouch hat (brim down) or toboggan hat (brim folded up.)  $44.  It's available here.

This is a matching hooded neck warmer or gnome hat.  It is so very soft and warm and is perfect to keep your head warm without worrying about the wind blowing off your hat and scarf.  One Size Fits Most.  $45.  More information and images here.

When I first got this heavy, soft, wool blend yarn, I was skeptical about whether I really liked it or not.  Now I love it!  It has a wonderful feel and molds so nicely into the items I knit and crochet.

This is another hooded neck warmer in the same type of wool blend yarn, but in burnt orange.  This one was a custom order and has been delivered.

This one is for My Honey.  He saw me making these hats and said he'd like to have one so I told Santa who brought one for him for Christmas. 

We have sold quite a few cloche hats recently so this one is to restock the shop.  We have more than 60 similar hats from $8 available in the shop.  Click here to see them all. 

That Happy Door or Window Sill or Toy Snake was a custom order and has been delivered.  I keep saying I'll make one of these for the shop, but haven't gotten there yet.  I must say he is pretty cute.  ;) 

This Azure Blue Cables and Lace Sweater is a custom order that has been shipped with...

This set has been shipped to the buyer.  There are similar sweaters, hats, headbands, and boot cuffs available in the shop.

Just One of Those Days

Good morning,

There is no such thing as making a quick trip out to run a few errands, is there?

We went out to mail an order from our shop, get flu shots (yes, we're late), do some wood store shopping....  We spent extra time in traffic because of this accident on the expressway.  At least it didn't appear there were any injuries.  That's always good news.

After shopping at My Honey's favorite wood (toy) store, we decided we'd stop at Bob Evans for lunch. The food was great, but the service was extremely slow.  The server was great, but it seemed there was a shortage of personnel in the kitchen.

So, here we are at home wondering where the day went. 

It's a good thing we are retired!
