Red, White, and Boom!

Good morning,

On the Fourth of July we attended the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra's Red, White, and Boom concert at Riverbend.

I snapped the picture above of the lawn behind the pavilion as we were going to our seats inside.  We arrived about 45 minutes ahead of concert time and the facility was filling up fast.
Here the orchestra is seated and most of the audience, wearing red, white, and blue, has arrived.  We were fortunate that the two choice seats in front of us remained empty throughout the concert.  I remember them being sold when I selected our seats on line several months ago.
Here we go!  The concert was fabulous, as always.  Our conductor, John Morris Russell, had huge shoes to fill when our beloved Erich Kunzel (1935-2009) died.  JMR is now in full command and loved by Pops audiences.
We are so very fortunate to live in Cincinnati where we have wonderful world-class entertainment, universities, and medical facilities.

Our daughter Catherine, friend Erica, Kjell, and I had a fabulous evening at the Pops.  We hope your Independence Day was safe and fun, too!

Needlework and Wood Working Update - July, 2019

Good morning,

Welcome to this month's Needlework and Wood Working Update.  This is where we share what we've made during the last month.

Above is Kenetic Art that Kjell has produced by engraving all of the pieces and making it move. Click here to see it in motion.

Kjell's kenetic art is coming to the shop soon.
"Vikings are at the Roots of our Family Tree" art is back in the shop. This gorgeous engraved wood art is bordered by an equally beautiful engraved frame.  Engraving requires nearly 60 hours to complete this piece.  $88.  It's available in the shop here.
Kjell has also produced this beautiful wood stand for our wall art so that it can also be displayed on a shelf or table. $25.  It's available here.
This beautiful, lacy, pure white blanket is perfect for baby's Christening, Bris Ceremony, or Naming Ceremony.  It's also a lovely lap blanket for all ages.  $50. Click here for images and details.
Here's a baby gift that is perfect for a boy or a girl.  This cream color with green accent blanket is crocheted with two stands of fine yarn that make it extra warm, cuddly, and "cushy."   $50.  Come see it here.
Quite a few cloche hats were also added to the shop this month.
In many cases, the hats sold as fast as they were added, so...
...I kept making and adding more.
Several different styles in a large variety of colors are available.

To see the large variety available to ship now, click here.  From $8.

That's it for another month.  We have many other items in process now that will be featured in next month's update.

We sincerely appreciate your purchases, likes, and shares on Facebook, too!

All the best,
Lois

Neptune Coming Soon!

Good morning,

Here's Kjell's current project.  The artwork engraving is complete and he has started the layers of finish.  He'll also engrave/carve an elaborate frame.

King Neptune (he has other names depending on the culture) and The Vikings are coming soon to our shop.

Each one of these just gets better and better!

Wendy and Elsa

Good morning,

Catherine has set up the air mattress at the end of the living room so she can sleep downstairs with Penny.

We don't want Penny to climb the steps without assistance any more because of her age.

Our other girls, Wendy and Elsa like the idea of sleeping in the living room with Catherine, too.  It has become a family affair to keep Penny company.

So sweet.

One Flower at a Time

Good morning,

Flower afghans are made one flower at a time.  Right now, though, I'm working on two afghans. When not doing necessary household duties, I spend a good part of my day downstairs on the first floor to be near our geriatric dog, Penny, age 14.5 years.  As long as someone is down there near her, she is content to sleep on her bed there instead of trying to climb the steps to the second floor. When downstairs, it is also easier to get her outside when necessary.  Kjell, Catherine, and I take turns being on "Penny duty," to be sure she isn't trying to climb up/go down the stairs alone.

The rest of my day/evening is upstairs in my creative space in my sitting room.  I have different needlework projects in process in each area.

Above you see the beginning of a custom order afghan of blues and greens. As each flower is finished it goes into the box until there will be 80.  Then I'll add more rounds of blue and green.  Lovely!
And, this is the progress on the upstairs project, the flower garden afghan blanket I showed you while I was arranging the colors a few days ago.

Both of these afghan projects get too large to carry around so I also have a "carry out" project bag with hats that are small enough to work on in the car, waiting rooms, or on the patio.

Yes, my hands have to be busy all the time!  It's so much less expensive and has to be more fun than therapy would be.  *chuckles*

What are you working on right now?

Lamb Dinner ala Catherine

Good morning,

This is a special meal.  Catherine grilled lamb leg yesterday.  She made all the sides, too.  It's easy to see the cottage cheese (a favorite of mine) and under it is fresh tomato slices.  She grilled the potatoes that were tossed with garlic and rosemary (from my herb garden);  the brussel sprouts were also grilled with garlic and spices.

Not pictured is the corn on the cob that we enjoyed.  Watermelon was available for dessert, but we had so much dinner that we decided to slice it later.

Thank you, Catherine.  It was delicious!

Love you,
Mom
