Good morning,
Today's images are still from our trip to Bardstown, Kentucky. This was our first evening in town and we were wandering around the main street looking for a restaurant where we had enjoyed a bourbon sauce covered steak a few years earlier. We learned that restaurant had closed (maybe we didn't come back often enough?) so we wandered on to find another place. We peered into the front window of this restaurant and the gentleman in the red plaid shirt to the right made huge waving motions inviting us in.
We came in and chatted with him and his beautiful family. It didn't take much for us to decide this was the perfect place for dinner. The decor is wonderful. I just LOVE all of those blue plates in the cabinet.
We were entertained by this great couple during dinner. ;)
The restaurant has the period metal ceiling and tile floor.
Back to the entertainment. While talking with the man in the red shirt when we first came in, he asked why we were in Bardstown and I told him we were here on a birthday trip for My Honey. Mr. Red Shirt shared that with the entertainment who made sure everyone in the establishment serenaded the Birthday Guy with the birthday song. It was GREAT!
We got to know the folks at the next table pretty well. The lady on on the right is the grandmother of the young man who just arrived to show off his new haircut. She was quite impressed. ;) I requested an picture and he gladly posed. These people are so terrific! The little kids are just gorgeous.
And, here's our steak dinner at Mammy's. Yum! Yes, I took the picture before I started eating again. That's not easy, you know. I got a kick out of the potato sticks in the salad: gotta make sure we get those carbs!
We shared a (huge) piece of coconut cream pie for dessert. This IS a birthday trip.
I asked the server to pose for a picture of the back of her shirt: "Good Cookin Makes ya Good Lookin" So true in this town!
It was finally time to head "home" to our Hampton Inn for the night. Our hotel is just on the outskirts of the old part of town which was so very convenient.
I hope you're enjoying our birthday trip to Bardstown, Kentucky.
Best,
Lois

First Afternoon in Bardstown, KY
Good morning,
After our lunch at the Old Talbott Tavern we got into the car and drove around the Bardstown area to get an idea of what we would like to do during the next two days here.
This beautiful Trumpet Vine (aka Hummingbird Flower) is on a fence overlooking the Old Pioneer Village at the Civil War Museum.
We will definitely return while in Bardstown. We have noticed on the calendar of events for the area that there will be a Civil War battle re-enactment. Cool Photo Op!!!
If you look in the center of the image you can see the white tents of the actors for the battle that will be "fought" here. We will return to get lots of images and meet the people. The village itself and the battle were both very worthwhile to see.
Back downtown we took more images of the Talbott Tavern from a little further away. There's that handsome man who shows up in so many of my pictures. Yes, he is the Birthday Guy himself. ;)
You can go back in time with a carriage ride around Bardstown, but your driver just may use a modern cell phone. I just loved this! The image is a little fuzzy, but I'm still glad to have it.
This is the tower of the old court house, now tourist center. Those birds up there certainly have the bird's eye view of the city.
Remember this sign? I sure do!
There are quite a number of bank buildings in Bardstown. Some are used for other types of businesses now.
This is the center of the Bourbon World and all that money has to be banked somewhere, right?
Before we knew it, it was time for dinner and we sure found a fun place! Dinner fun and images coming soon. ;)
All the best,
Lois

The Old Talbott Tavern - Bardstown, Kentucky
Good morning,
A couple of days ago I said My Honey and I love road trips and taking pictures. There is one more thing we like to do and that is EAT!
As soon as we arrived in Bardstown, we headed to The Old Talbott Tavern for lunch.
We have eaten here before so we knew we would enjoy the food and the visit.
The history of the Tavern is an important part of the history of the area.
Notice that among other things, a Bourbon Bar is advertised. We are certainly in bourbon country!
I can just imagine a stage coach pulling up in front of this place and people passing through this door in the old section of the building to enjoy a meal inside.
And, this is the view from our table inside. Except for the addition of electricity, I don't believe the interior is much different than it was when built.
I managed to take this picture before I started eating. This is a club sandwich served Talbott Tavern style. :)
This gorgeous painting of the tavern in the mid 1800's is over the bar. Beautiful.
I hope you're enjoying our trip to Bardstown, Kentucky, with us. :)

Kentucky Countryside and Arrival in Bardstown
Good morning,
We are still aboard Freedom of the Seas, but today and for the next three days I'll share some images we took before we got here. Since we came on board I have had the time to format the pictures and write about them so here goes!
Today's images were taken during our road trip to Kentucky to celebrate My Honey's birthday.
We both love road trips and photo safaris so three days away in Bardstown provided us with both. Above is tobacco just about ready to harvest.
We were also in the middle of Kentucky horse country. Beautiful!
This is My Old Kentucky Dinner Train Restaurant. We had dinner on the train several years ago when we first visited Bardstown. The train cars are out of the past: one of them is the dinner car used on President Eisenhower's train. The ride itself is a round trip into the hills of Kentucky while dinner is being served. Very nice, but we passed on this one this trip.
Bardstown has gorgeous old homes.
This is the old court house, now the tourist information center.
Parking on the street is free and there was no problem finding a spot.
There are banks and churches on almost every corner. I'll have more images of these in another post.
This is a little town that is still very much alive with wonderful people.
And, if you want to take a trip back in time while you see the town, you can do it in a horse drawn carriage.
More Bardstown images to come!
Enjoy,
Lois

Champagne Lunch Overlooking Cozumel
Good morning,
My friends Martha and Russell invited me to a champagne lunch in the Windjammer restaurant aboard Freedom of the Seas.
It was a rainy day in Cozumel, Mexico, so it was a good day to stay on board and enjoy the ship.
The rain doesn't show in this image, but this tour boat was returning to dock in quite a heavy downpour.
It was a perfect day to watch the action from inside. ;)
Thanks, Martha and Russell, for inviting me to share a glass of champagne with you! It was so much fun having you here.
All the best,
Lois

More Stairway Artwork - Freedom of the Seas
Good morning,
Every time we return to Freedom of the Seas I find something I haven't caught with my camera before.
The entire ship is an art museum.
And, the stairways themselves are art. This set of stairways is between decks 4 and 5 in the aft part of the ship. I've taken pictures of this before. It is hard to pass here with a camera without taking more pictures!
This lovely stairway is between decks 4 and 5 between the Royal Promenade and the Photo Gallery.
The guest stairways all have artwork that is quite beautiful.
All the best,
Lois
