Winter in the Great Smoky Mountains

Good morning,

We are continuing our journey South, now in the Great Smoky Mountains.
The ice storms had covered a wide swath of the Southeastern US.
Pretty, yes, but not so much for the trees that were damaged.

The mountains are beautiful in winter.
This is one of the tunnels on Route 40...

...and, of course, we found more winter scenes on the other end.

The roads were dry so this was an enjoyable trip.  We were fortunate we were not here the day before.

All the best,
Lois

Yes, Lois, after seeing news photos of icy Southern roads, drive pavement and no traffic delays would be great news.

My brother and I always talk about trying to go home one more time when there is snow on the ground...these shots of yours makes me want to go even more.

Winter does provide some beautiful scenery, and you were fortunate not to be be traveling during the ice storm. We got freezing rain a week ago Sunday, and that is not something we want in the winter.
