Accommodation Ship

Good morning,

Here is something a little different.  This unusual ship is called an accommodation ship. It provides housing for personnel who work on oil platforms at sea.  Information about the ships can be found here.  This one is the Edda Fides

I had to zoom quite a bit to get this image of the ship off the shore of Grand Cayman.  It came in quickly, a small boat went out to meet it, then it departed.  We learned later that it had brought in an ill crew member so was only in port for the landing of the patient.

As much as we are at sea, we have never seen one of these new ships this close.  That is surely because we have been in the Caribbean for the past few years.  I am sure we would see more of them in the North Sea.  ;)

All the best,
Lois

It doesn't quite have the eye-appeal that your ship has!

A floating bunkhouse! The oil companies have camps all along the Haul Road for their crews, but I never thought about what they do on the oil rigs in the Gulf.
