Tennessee Run Away Truck Ramp and Welcome to the Carolinas

Good morning,

One of the highway signs we don't see near our home is "Runaway Truck Ramp."  We have seen them in several states in the Mountains and by looking at the tire tracks in the sand it appears they are used.  The sign above is in Eastern Tennessee.
Just down the hill is the ramp filled with white sand.
We stopped at a rest stop in North Carolina, then got back on the road...
...passed under the Blue Ridge Parkway...
...and were greeted by the "Hampton Inn Greeter" in Columbia, South Carolina.  He is a regular here.
This time he had some friends with him.

We are aboard Freedom of the Seas.  Hopefully, tomorrow I will have a connection with enough band width to upload some images from the ship and ports.  :)

Enjoy,
Lois

Yes, those ramps are used and it's wonderful they are there! The ramps make it safer for all of us.

I always wonder what it would be like to drive an out of control semi into those sand filled ramps

Love the ducks! I'll bet they expected you to feed them! Having to use that run away truck ramp must be scary!

I hope I am never on the highway when there is a truck flying down the road trying to get to one of these ramps! So, you are on a ship again. I had come to your blog looking at bread recipes and saw that you were on the ship.
Love,
Marie

Awwwwwww, what a greeting you got on your way into your destination. Sweet.

Hey? I hope it doesn't rain too hard. I've been watching Tropical Storm Debby this past week, that's probably where the storm from is coming from...her?

I think that truck drivers need the "run away truck ramp", pretty necessary.
