Crew Lifeboat Drill - Freedom of the Seas

Good morning,

A recent morning in St. Thomas, U.S.V.I., while doing last-week-aboard things and organizing for packing aboard Freedom of the Seas an announcement was made that there would be a crew lifeboat drill.

I have four more days so can get back to packing in a couple of days....  ;)
I took my camera to deck 12 and soon was able to take pictures...
...of what looked as if they could be alien pods...
 ...in a science fiction movie.
I looked straight down and could see the lifeboats being quickly launched.
 More and more of them....
 ...were on the water.
If you look carefully, you can see guests on balconies below who are also watching the launching of the lifeboats.
It's quite a picture here of the yellow pods with the anchored sailboats.
The whole process was quite fast.
Soon the starboard life boats were returned to the ship and shore leave was granted to the crew members involved in the drill.

OK, time to get back to organizing and packing after ten weeks on board.

Enjoy!
Lois

The yellow pods do show up well in the water.

cool post. As I was looking at your amazing photos I was wondering if you ever get sick of the color blue. I just don't think I can get enough of that brilliant color!

Good morning,

No, Lynn, I never get tired of blue. In fact, much of my home is blue, too. :)

There is another set of life boats on the other side of the ship, too, as well as large covered rafts that can be launched so there are more seats on them than there are people on the ship.

We were part of a search for someone missing some years ago (it's here: http://www.evensens.us/rescue/sprescue.html) that was also with the same captain who is on board with us now. The bright colors of those orange life boats were what was needed when we were looking for specks in the black sea.

Safety is the most important thing while on board any ship.

Very best,
Lois

I would love to learn more about your 10 week trip....it sound so interesting. I can remember the life jacket drills, but I never saw a life boat drill. Your photos give us a great insight into what the waters looked like with all of that yellow.

This was a great photo op. It was certainly a study in blue and yellow!

Thank you so much, everyone, for stopping by.

Very best,

When on a boat it is always reassuring to see the crew doing a well orchestrated life boat drill. The contrast of the boats on the blue water looks very nice indeed.
