Good morning,
As we spent some time walking around the pioneer village in Bardstown, Kentucky, we began to see some of the people staying nearby in tents who would be part of the civil war reenactment later in the day.
These folks are in full uniform of the times. Those are wool pants - surely pretty itchy.
It's all pretty realistic. When "shot" (blanks, of course), the victims dropped and waited for their "bodies" to be removed by other fighters.
The young ladies had plenty to say to the young men. ;) It was fun watching the children relive what their ancestors had experienced.
This little guy was part of the act, too. The children were "practicing" while the parents were still getting ready for the day.
There will be other images of this place coming, too, of the people we met as well as the battle later in the day.
I hope you're enjoying our tour back into history.
All the best,
Lois

ReplyDeleteGreat pictures! I especially like the one of the mill (and the "dead" body!)

ReplyDeleteLOL...living just 18 miles from Gettysburg Pa, we have lots of reenactments. Like you, I always think about how the actors can stand those wool uniforms...it has to be sooooo uncomfortable!!!
ReplyDeleteThis was very nice. I love the water mill.
ReplyDeleteHi Lois...I have been to a couple of the vilages and my favorite is King's Landing in N.B Canada...I always thoughte how much fun would it be to be a part of this and live the part in costume and the life style inactment!!

ReplyDeleteThe mill is beautiful! Love Di ♥
I enjoy seeing how people lived way back when. It makes me appreciate what we have now. It also make me realize how little we actually NEED to survive. :)

Just think of all the fabric it took to make the dresses! I always think of that when I see dresses from that period....and probably a lot of the sewing done by hand.
ReplyDeleteI need to check the map to see where Bardstown is....I think I did before and don't think it would be too far off the beaten path for us when we are coming or going to Tennessee.
