Good morning,
I took these images last Fall when we were visiting Bardstown, Kentucky.
This pioneer village is beside the Civil War Museum.
We were here early in the morning so were able to take pictures before there were many other tourists there.
Later in the day a Civil War battle was reenacted here. It was quite realistic!
There was actually a settlement here during the Civil War, but many of these buildings have been brought here from nearby settlements.
Back in these times people found ways to provide for themselves. American ingenuity. ;)
I truly enjoyed seeing the interiors with the period items. The quilts were beautiful!
In the center of this image you can see the tents of the group who will be performing the battle reenactment later in the day.
We were invited to come over and take a look so we did! More images to come. :)
All the best,
Lois
looks like a nice day out...
ReplyDeleteBet that was interesting and fun! I really enjoy seeing the interiors of their cabins. Simple but beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLois, it's always nice to be able to take photos without the hassle of crowds of others in your way. Thanks for sharing this bit of history. Also enjoyed the previous posts, especially about Proctor & Gamble and all the models.
ReplyDeletethe grounds are kept so pristine!
ReplyDeleteI like your new header.
ReplyDeleteNice to see quilts on the beds. thanks for the tour.
I like the interiors too! What an interesting place.
ReplyDeleteLove old buildings--they have such a story to tell. I live in Utah, we have plenty of 'pioneer' buildings/museums. Always fun to visit.
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to visit here! The quilts are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'm i,pressed that this village is being so well taken care of!
ReplyDeleteWow! I'd love to have a stone fireplace like that in my barn. I might just live down there in the winter.
ReplyDeleteVery well maintained!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a interesting place to visit. Agree with your comment about Johnny Carter, the person in my blog. He should be paid more by those he gives lessons to.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots, Lois! I really think that places like these that bring history to life are wonderful for the visitors (especially children), as this "history by immersion" is much more vivid than a textbook or simple memorisation of dates and facts.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love the photos. I cant wait to see the rest. thanks for sharing the pioneer era has fasinated me ever since I read the little house books as a little girl.
ReplyDeleteI thoroughly enjoyed the photos. What an amazing place to visit. Its wonderful that people have saved and maintained these buildings and opened them to the public to view.
