Good morning,
We arrived very early in the day at the Civil War Museum and the Pioneer Village next door where the Battle Reenactment would occur last August. The people were wonderful and invited us to come in to see their encampment.
Many of these people are family and are involved in historical reenactments throughout the year. Their costumes are quite realistic hot and scratchy wool.
I like this man's t-shirt: "Original Freedom Fighters" with an image of an American Indian.
For those who do this and take it quite seriously, the ranks are meaningful and play into the pecking order of the group and the performance. It works out very well!
That's wool, it's August, it's hot! They say they get used to it and they don't mind at all.
What a wonderful portrait! These generous people answered all of our questions and were very willing to pose for us. We were the only "tourists" there.
There are more images to come of a shooting demonstration they gave for us. It was great fun!
And, for the last picture for today. This young man posed with his gun, but the background is what makes the image even more interesting. The rocking horses belonging to the small children and the "We don't rent pigs" sign put the finishing touches on this one!
More images to come. This was such a fun visit with these terrific people.
All the best,
Lois
The have fun and do something useful at the same time!

ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that families volunteer together, and keep our history alive.
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed the photos of all the players. I know all of them really take the reenactments very seriously, and take a lot of pride in getting their outfits to look like the originals down to the last button! ...debbie
ReplyDeletei do appreciate the care, time and effort they put into this performance art! :)

That fellow in the first photo looks like he stepped into your photo right out of the past! Very authentic looking.
ReplyDeleteWonderful that the folks let you photograph them. I really feel for them when the reenactments take place in the heat of the summer.
ReplyDeleteReally nice pictures, Lois. I bet the re-enactors really enjoyed talking to someone that was truely interested...Roger would love this stuff. Not that I don't like it, he just really, really likes it.
ReplyDeleteThose wool uniforms have to be uncomfortable in hot weather, and because I'm allergic to wool it just makes me feel all itchy!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures!
