Highland County Court House

Good morning,

Today we are still in Hillsboro, Ohio, which is the County Seat of Highland County.
This county has sent its sons and daughters to fight in every war our country has fought and they are all remembered here...
...including the Unknown.
This bell was cast in Highland County in 2002 for the celebration of Ohio's Bicentennial in 2003.

A significant number of Revolutionary War veterans are buried in the county and are remembered here.  Considering this part of the USA was mostly undeveloped at the time of the Revolutionary War, this seems to be quite a few veterans buried in one county.
This monument recognizes veterans of more recent wars.
The Court House itself is unique.  The style appears to me to be more like a church which may be explained by the combination of Federal and Greek Revival styles of architecture.

I hope you've enjoyed these images of this fascinating place with me.

Lois

  4. I enjoyed my look at your photos about Highland County. They are good ones.

The Revolutionary soldiers memorial reminds me that my little town where I was born, Gordon, Ohio, has a cemetery and in it is one former Revolutionary War veteran.

  7. That does seem like a lot of men from Ontario to have died in the Revolutionary War. I cannot imagine what it must be like to have war on home soil. Very scary!
