I'm continuing with our Ohio road trip pictures today. We stopped in Wilmington, Ohio, and parked in front of this Community Prayer Room in the center of town.
Within steps of where we parked free on the street (aren't small towns wonderful!) was this mural.
That's our cream colored Edge on the left. Across the street is the Murphy Theater that was the center of the Glenn Beck Show last year.
Around the corner is the General Denver Hotel.
We had arrived in the middle of the afternoon and the last of the lunch crowd was leaving as we arrived. I thought they might be closed, but instead we got a "Sure, we're open! Come on in!"
We sat in a booth by the window and this was just outside near to the front door of the hotel. I can just imagine the old days when people stopped by for lunch and left their horses "parked" in front.
As we were leaving, I turned around to take this image of the entrance to the restaurant from the lobby side.
This is the check-in desk in the lobby. If you look carefully, you can see a more elegant dining room, white table cloths and tables set for dinner in the room to the left.
And, as we rounded the corner to walk down the street for more pictures, I spotted the advertisement on the brick wall across the street.
The wonderful little town of Wilmington, Ohio, and their warm and loving people aren't new to me. When I was a child I rode in the back seat of the car as my parents and I rode from Cincinnati to Columbus, Ohio, to visit my brother at Ohio State University. We made these drives about twice a month while he was at OSU. When a truck tried to pass us during a rain storm, we had an accident, spun off the road, and were taken to the Clinton County Memorial Hospital where we met the most professional and caring people you could ever want to meet. It's been 50 years since that accident and I'll always remember how wonderful those people were to us.
More pictures of Wilmington, Ohio, tomorrow.
Very best,
Lois

What a neat, off the beaten path, place!
ReplyDeleteWilmington is just up the road from me, Lois. It's a lovely town with a beautiful old court house. One can still see and feel the past of the old farming community there. Both of my sons were born at Clinton Memorial Hospital.

ReplyDeleteLoved this...and LOVED that mural! Looks like a nice place to eat...we like to stop at local places to eat if given the chance. On our way to Sarah's there is this Cornerstone Pub...we stop and eat if given the opportunity...good food...quiet atmosphere. They have a dining room, but we just always eat in the pub part...
