We were up early and left our hotel near Savannah, Georgia, to get on the road to Tennessee.
Again, it felt the trip was going very fast. We traveled through South Carolina to North Carolina.
We saw some unusual characters along the way!
And, here are some of those log homes we think are so beautiful for a mountain home. Yes, that's my arm in the rear view mirror. ;)
There is a joke about the places where you'll never hear "Honey, it's not SAFE for those kids to ride in the back of the pickup truck...." The above was no joke. I took the picture while we were traveling about 70 miles per hour.
This looked much better to me. Those are fresh peaches. If we were closer to home, we would have stopped at a farmers market to bring some of these home.
Mountains!
Then rain in the mountains.
The rain cleared...
then we literally made our way...
... through the mountains...
...and found the light at the end of the tunnel.Humidity was high...
... and the clouds were low.
While we were still in North Carolina, just before the the Tennessee border, we passed the place where there was a huge rock slide a few years ago that took at least a couple of years to clear and repair.
Tomorrow we will stop and watch white water rafting, then continue our trip into Tennessee.
I hope you're enjoying our road trip as much as we are.
Best,
Lois

Yes, that pick up truck loaded with people is a staple down South. What's even worse is when you see a dog in the back. And that big beast on the side of the road. . . good thing I didn't see that before my first cup of coffee!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Lois! I enjoyed your trip through our NC mountains. Wish I had been with you. I would love to have a log house perched on top of one of those hills. We are wanting to get us some of those good peaches. The best in our state come from the Sand Hills. We had a cobbler the other night from the last peaches I froze last year.
ReplyDeleteIt is against the law to ride in the back of a pick up. I hope they got where they were going okay.
Love ya!
Marie
That was almost as satisfying as taking the trip myself. :))
ReplyDeletelove the trip 'thru' the mountains! beautiful territory - even with humidity rising...
ReplyDeleteI just love road trips. Thanks for sharing yours with us.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to see you on your way back home again. I think I would have had to get a case of those wonderful Georgia peaches. We so seldom get decent peaches here and I really love them.
ReplyDeleteWow Lois! Either I've been gone longer than I thought or you have traveled very far, very fast!!!
ReplyDeleteEither way I so enjoyed your photos of North Carolina. Maybe someday I'll be able to go there too!
Love Di ♥
Nice road trip you are taking! Thanks for posting these fantastic photos. :D We rode in the back of pickups all the time growing up here in ALabama. I even watched as a friend of mine was sitting in a lawn chair and fell out of a pick-up truck!
