Home and Family - A Relaxed Day

 Good morning,

Yesterday was one of those wonderful home days.  My Honey and I travel a great deal so when we get time at home to just enjoy being here, bake something special, and be with family it is priceless to us.

This morning I awoke to find this Betty Crocker Cookbook open to the Banana Bread recipe.  There also happened to be four very ripe bananas leaning up against it.
This was all laid out on the kitchen counter (surely by daughter Catherine) so I took the hint and made banana bread.
My only change to Betty's excellent recipe is to add 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg.  That's my Mom's old Mixmaster still cranking out good stuff after all these years.
Yum!

We already had plans to go out to dinner with daughter Catherine, Aunt Carol, and another friend so the day was mine to enjoy.

It was a wonderfully relaxing day.  I made another green hat like one I made several months ago and gave away.  I liked the hat and had another ball of the double strand thread so thought I would make the hat for my gift box.  This is a small size and will be good for a young girl.
When evening came we drove to the Hollywood Casino on the Ohio River in Indiana.  The sunset was gorgeous.
This is Catherine on her cell phone...
...trying to connect with all the people in our dinner party...
 ...under Dad's watchful eye.  ;)

Catherine had put this dinner event together because of a special dinner offered at the casino.   After dinner we spent about an hour in the casino at the penny slots.  As a group we came out even which is just fine.  My idea of a big night gambling is $10 in a slot machine for as long as it lasts.  Then I'm happy to watch.

After dinner we went home and had some coffee and banana bread.  A boring day?  No way!  Days like this with family are priceless.

Very best,
Lois

I'm the same as you when it comes to gambling. The most I've lost is $17.00 and that made me mad so I quit. Not much of a gambler am I!!! lol ...debbie

  3. Any of that banana bread left? I make it too and it is gone before you know it. Might try some nutmeg in it next time. Been at home and having your family and friends around you is just great.

  8. Sounds like a great way to spend the day! My first cookbook was a Betty Crocker, which I totally wore out. My second one is showing signs of wear too, but then I've got a big cupboard full of other cookbooks to consult now, and then there's the Internet.

Appropriately my word verification is "mother."

  9. Hi Everyone,

Yes, it was fun day. When we go "on vacation" we go home!

Sorry, no banana bread left or I would send each of you a virtual piece. In our house, we don't even have to take it out of the pan. It just seems to evaporate all by itself. ;)

Thanks so much, everyone, for stopping by.

    Very best,
    Lois
