This is a continuation of our trip to Slottsfjlellet atop a mountain in Toensberg, Norway.
We walked down the road on the back side of the mountain and past this statue of Princess Kristina.
At the bottom of the mountain is this statue of a barefoot pilgrim girl.
We are still descending, now through the streets at the bottom of the mountain.
The artwork in Toensberg is spectacular.
WWII memorial. Norway was occupied by the Nazis. The resistance was alive and well.
Aside: The paper clip of today was a Norwegian invention. During the WWII occupation, the wearing of a paperclip on the collar was an indication of membership in the resistance.

At the bottom of the mountain we reached the dockside and the little fish market and restaurant where we purchased ice cream earlier in the week.
The menu and prices are on the side of the building in Norwegian Kroner, of course. Divide by 7.5 to convert to US dollars. It's still expensive even after the conversion! ;)

ReplyDeleteI'm adopted and it turns out I don't have a drop of Scandinavian blood in me as I thought, but my Adopted grandfather immigrated from Norway and I grew up with the food, customs and language. I enjoy you being able to see it i person.
