Good morning,
We visited Savannah, Georgia, with the intent to visit Civil War sites. But, the rains came so we opted to take a trolley tour instead.
Above is a trolley similar to the one where we were riding and taking pictures.
We were here and took this tour nine years ago and were glad to do it again. The rain became a drizzle; it was just enough that we wouldn't have wanted to risk getting our cameras wet if we were walking.
Our driver, Tony, did an excellent job of describing the many gorgeous homes and businesses we passed.
Savannah has many squares, each with its own monument or statue.
This old home is now a bed and breakfast.
This is the Presbyterian Church. The tower was featured at the beginning of the Forrest Gump movie.
Look! Property for sale!
This tavern was featured in a movie, also. Sorry, I can't remember which one. You'll also note the Spanish Moss hanging from the trees.
This building once housed the first Ford Dealership in Savannah.
Another square and more monuments.
This house has an interesting story. The owner also owned an iron company. He said anything that could be made from concrete or stone could be made of iron. That stairway and everything that you see that isn't stucco walls and doors is made of iron.
Another square and more Spanish Moss. We were warned that the Spanish Moss is home of chiggers so not to touch!
This old home houses the Georgia Historical Society.
These homes are just gorgeous.
Also so very pretty is this home in the African American district of segregation days.
Our tour also took us to the river and the a view of the tourist district there.
This one and a half hour tour was very, very enjoyable.
All the best,
Lois
I would love to buy that property that is for sale!
ReplyDeleteI have heard Savannah is lovely and your pics prove it. Do you keep changing your header or am I dreaming?
ReplyDeleteSavannah is on my bucket list. Your pics make me want to go that much more.
ReplyDeleteGood morning,
ReplyDeleteSavannah is always a great place to visit. Not only are there so many places to visit and photograph, the people are so very nice!
Yes, Fab, I do keep changing my header. I just can't control myself! ;) Seriously, I change it to reflect where we are, what we are doing, or the season of the year. :)
Thanks to you all for stopping by and for your very kind comments.
All the best,
Lois
wow, it is beautiful. the trolley tour sounds about perfect!
ReplyDeleteLois, we took a trolly tour when we were there too, it was so much fun! Savannah has to be one of the most beautiful cities. I loved all the little parks in the center of each block! We went in late Sept. but when I go back I want to go in cooler weather.
ReplyDeleteThat would be a fun tour to take. The moss reminds me of growing up in Pensacola, Florida. It was all over the place!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful tour! I really like the grandeur and stateliness of those homes!!
ReplyDeleteA lovely tour and a wonderful way to find out about a place, so interesting. I have a friend who just moved to the outskirts of Savannah. I'll have to tell her about that Spanish Moss ;) Thanks Lois, your photos were great.
ReplyDeleteOh Lois..this was a wonderful tour!! Just wonderful! Thank you for taking us with you!
ReplyDeleteI like the BB place.
ReplyDeleteHaPpy WeeKeNd!

ReplyDeleteRose
You have a fantastic group of photos today. I'm impressed.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a wonderful tour! I love all those old houses. We always look for houses to tour when we're traveling.
ReplyDeleteI'm doing a bit of catch-up here. Our granddaughter's wedding was this weekend, so kept us pretty busy!
All the old courthouses in Texas had iron staircases. Also many of the plantations in Louisiana have been stripped of Spanish moss because of the chiggers. You don't even have to touch it to get them on you. They fall out of the trees into your hair and onto your clothes! I'd love to go to Savannah someday. Thanks for the tour!
