Viera Wetlands - Melbourne, Florida

Good morning,

We are off the ship on the way North to Ohio again, but first I'll share some images we took at Viera Wetlands, near Melbourne, Florida.
We have been here several times.  Sometimes we are able to drive these roads, but this time they were only open to foot traffic.
Since this is Florida, of course, there are always flowers. :)
This area was formed and is maintained by waste water.
There are numerous observation towers.  Sometimes when we are here we see quite a few people taking pictures, but this time we were almost alone walking the roads with cameras in hand.
Out there is an island where the birds are safe to nest.
I used to see quite a few red winged black birds back home in Ohio, but not so often any more.
Ah, and look who lurks looking for a meal.  Yes, we are walking along a road near the water's edge.  I truly do prefer driving here!
 This was a noisy fellow!
The wildlife don't see to be bothered by us at all.
 So pretty!

Tomorrow I'll have a few more images from this trip to Viera Wetlands.

All the best,
Lois

  1. I really want to visit a wetlands. We also have many along the Texas Gulf Coast. It's just a matter of getting a round tuit!

  3. These are wonderful pictures Lois. So nice to get close to these birds. We have lots of red wing blackbirds here in summer. They are among the first to arrive in spring and I always listen for their distinct trill. Pamela

  4. Nice pictures, but I agree, with the aligator, I'd rather be in a car! They aren't the friendliest creature God put on this earth!

  5. I've spent some time in the Everglades, both personally and professionally. It's not a place for the naive, as there are things around that can hurt you, but the beauty of it is just amazing. Thank you for capturing some of that with your wonderful photos.

  7. On the way back to Ohio? Lois! It is still winter! It snows in Ohio and it gets cold. Reconsider and turn around!
