Good morning,
My images today are of our arrival to St. Thomas, U.S.V.I. aboard
Freedom of the Seas.
I moved to the top deck of
Freedom and stood along the rail next to the jogging track.
There were a few others up here to capture images, too.
And there is nothing more romantic than standing at the rail on a beautiful ship as you sail into such a gorgeous port.
We hadn't been to St. Thomas for quite a number of years since we were there aboard
Splendour of the Seas. I guess during the winter seasons of 1999, 2000, and 2001, we were there every couple of weeks or so. During other parts of the year, we were in Europe aboard
Splendour.
Here comes the pilot boat. Our ship will slow so the pilot boat can pull along side and the pilot will come aboard to guide us into St. Thomas.
If you look carefully inside the entrance to the bay, you'll see another ship is already in port.
The hill sides are a lush green. On the far hills there are homes that have a fantastic view of the harbor.
Again, if you look carefully, you will be able to spot the ruins of an old fort at the entrance to the bay.

As we were sailing into St. Thomas, a sea plane was flying out.
And, here we have tied up in St. Thomas, U.S.V.I. So beautiful.

ReplyDeleteMorning Lois (at least it is early a.m. here). I can see why you enjoy the Virgin Islands - just the first shots show it as a beautiful location. We've never been there so exploring with you will be an adventure.

ReplyDeleteYou're next door to me, haha! :) And my favorite place in the world is Culebra Island, which is right beside St. Thomas, and belongs to PR. The weather is very hot today, isn't it? It should cool down some with the weather system #4.

ReplyDeleteYes, St. Thomas is gorgeous. And, the best part, it is part of the USA so there is a US Post Office at the port. That's one of the things very important to me when we are out here for long periods of time.
Marty, I'd love to send you some bread, but I'm not baking while on board. I do have a kitchen in our suite, but don't do much cooking since there are so many wonderful restaurants here. What's the point of cooking? ;) Oh, and the bread is all made on board and fresh so no preservatives - just like mine at home.
Yes, Debbie, this is a very tall ship so provides many great photo opportunities. It's just perfect for photoholics.
River, YES, I know I am close. And, we will be here every two weeks for awhile. :) Maybe I'll lean out on the deck and wave over to you in San Juan. ;)
