Today I'm on the road again, this time from Port Canaveral to the Orlando airport to pick up daughter Catherine and Aunt Carol who are coming to spend a week with My Honey and me on board Freedom of the Seas. It's about a 45 minute drive each way.
When I got to the airport I went to the cell phone waiting lot to wait until Catherine called to tell me she had arrived. These lots are the best things airports have done. You pull into a parking area close to the terminal and wait until you receive a call from your people telling you that they have have arrived, have their luggage, and are waiting at the curb.
I knew the Delta flight was delayed a few minutes when I pulled into the cell phone lot. I was delighted to see these huge cranes wandering around.
The weather was well over 100 F so I was sitting in the car with the air conditioning running when I saw this character wander into the lot.
I had only my baby camera with me, but was happy I could get these shots through the windshield.
I'm also glad the zoom worked rather well. This car had pulled in across the grass divider and pulled up with window open to take pictures. I believe the crane thought he was going to get a handout.
When he realized he wasn't going to get anything, he moved to the other side of the lot and headed for the potties. He passed the potties, though and went over to a large puddle of water.
That's about when my cell phone rang, Catherine and Carol had arrived, and I pulled around to the terminal to pick them up. I was busy driving so don't have pictures of that.
But, here's Freedom of the Seas as we pulled into the parking lot at Port Canaveral. For those who fly or drive, this is an exceedingly easy port to getting to and from cruise ships.
This is a view from the second floor of cruise ship terminal where we waited to board.
And, beyond that reflection in the glass is the huge Freedom of the Seas.
Within minutes we were across the gangway and aboard Freedom. More images of our week together are coming soon!
Best,
Lois

Lois, sounds like the fun will continue as you and the family enjoy cruising together - what an adventure! The photos of the cranes were amazing too.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen or heard of "Cell Call Areas". Your right! It's a grand idea! That is a Sandhill Crane! We learned about them from Artic View! The ship looks HUGE! Maybe some day...debbie
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! And how delightful that you saw some Cranes! Enjoy your time.
ReplyDeleteThe Crane was hysterical Lois! Very matter of fact wasn't he?! Glad your having fun! Love Di ♥
ReplyDeleteGood morning,
ReplyDeleteThis was the first time I had used a Cell Call area. It is brilliant!
And, thanks for identifying the cranes. They were so tame they obviously were used to the cars and people pulling in and out of the area. The planes were pretty loud there, too, but didn't bother them. We were all part of their environment. ;)
We always have fun cruising with family and friends. There's never enough time to do everything.
Thank you, everyone, for stopping by.
Very best,
Lois
I've gotten behind on commenting and am trying to catch up. How nice that you are having family visit with you on the ship. Funny to see that Crane looking for a handout! The Sandhill Cranes in Florida are resident and don't migrate like the ones I see here in Alaska. I would bet the ones you saw don't get too far from the airport.
ReplyDeleteHow nice to have family with you as you enjoy your trip. I really like the idea of the cell phone waiting lots, what a great idea! And how nice they provide "entertainment" for the visitors! I have to chuckle over the long legs on the "critter".
