Good morning,
Do you think outside the season? I sure do. While traveling, I took a look at the yarn I had with me after making several other projects and discovered I still had this really soft light yellow. This will be a gift for a young girl in the family next Fall. I like making things ahead and putting them in the "gift box" at home to be ready when the appropriate occasion nears.
I also like to play with pattern stitches. This is a keep-it-simple arrangement of knits and purls that forms a spongy ribbed fabric. It's a different take on the seed stitch with two stitches instead of one stitch worked over each other on each row. This is one of those stitches you can do while watching TV - very little thought involved for a very pretty result.
The pattern is below if you would like to use it.
Very best,
Lois

ReplyDeleteI always want to start Christmas projects early. Then I keep saying that I have plenty of time and then before you know it, it's too late!!!
ReplyDeleteVery cute hat Lois! Love Di ♥
Well, that does it, Lois. I knew you weren't perfect, since no one is, and here is the proof. KNIT!

haha!
River
River, you are so funny! I know you are the crochet lady and I'll tell you how to convert this pattern to crochet:
ReplyDeleteUse a J hook and same number of chains at the beginning as stitches cast on.
For every knit, work sc in the front loop only.
For every purl, work sc in back loop only.
This will give you the same feel of the spongy pattern stitch design.
For decrease at top of hat, instead of cutting yarn and threading back through remaining stitches, just work 3 sc together (dec) until you have 6 st left. Break off and weave in ends.
There you go - same project in crochet. ;)
Lois
OKay, I'm laughing here at having teased you into coming up with a crochet version.
ReplyDeleteHere in Puerto Rico, we call that placing a banana peel on the floor to see if you will slip and fall, and you certainly did!
I needed that laugh, and I will save the instructions in case my neighbor, Isis, has a girl instead of a boy.
River
(still grinning*
Not a problem, River. When I taught needlework arts many years ago I converted patterns all the time for my students to make the same pattern in both knit and crochet to learn how to do it.
ReplyDeleteIt took me all of the few seconds to type the conversion so no harm done. It didn't take me long at all and perhaps someone else can use the instructions.
Enjoy,
Lois
Its very pretty I love yellow!
ReplyDeleteVery cute set!

Good morning, everyone,
ReplyDeleteYes, this was a fun little set to make. I'm with you, Diana, I always get close to Christmas to realize how much more I want to make for gifts. I now keep a little reference list in the back of my calendar to list ideas of what to make for whom.
Welcome, Anupama.
Thank you, everyone, for stopping by.
Very best,
Lois
A beautiful set indeed for a lucky girl. I make scarves with this pattern for orphans who are in college, the scarve are knit in red and then distributed to the students for Valentine's Day. I must try the hat pattern.
