Recently I published images taken during a walk down Duval Street in Key West, Florida. One of the images was of the crocheted top above and I commented it wouldn't work for a trip to the grocery back home.
Debbie of Happy Days made a comment that it is a "tricky" outfit and I totally agree that is a perfect description! I like that. It sure is "tricky."
River Glorious mentioned a little more conservative version would look all right over a blouse for her daughter. She said if she could see more detail, perhaps she could crochet something similar. Yes, over a blouse or knit top it would be really cool and not at all "tricky." In fact, over a fancy slim knit black dress it could look quite formal.
So, this week while in Key West I walked over to Energy again and took another couple of pictures of the top for River and anyone else interested to see more detail:
I hope this detail is helpful, River.
The top appears to be made of cotton with beads crocheted into the design while the top was being made. There was no price tag and no one around to make a sale. Perhaps that is why I have seen this outfit in this doorway for years.
There are plenty of other outfits available for sale at Energy. It's so pure Key West and pretty normal for what you see on the streets here. In fact, most of these clothes are more conservative than much of what is seen in Key West.
I still didn't see anything that struck me as a good buy for myself, but enjoyed going back for more pictures. It's a fun little shop.
River, if you develop a crochet pattern from these images, I would love to see it!
Very best,
Lois

For the most part, the clothes were fairly conservative. I see there is another Tricky little green shirt there in the last picture. On the right gal it would be cute. Something fun for the beach...or...the night life....lol...debbie
ReplyDeleteIt's very pretty, but if I could, I would design one without the bra-type top...one more like a vest would be more suitable for me!
ReplyDeleteAre you sure you didn't go back and buy it, Lois? :)
♥...Wanda
I would make it if I knew someone who could wear it. I don't think I'd like either of my girls to wear it, LOL!
ReplyDeleteI did like the dress in the last photo, I think it would look great on my older daughter! Love Di ♥
What's tricky with that outfit? Looks like a "fishnet" to me :)
ReplyDeleteLois, after seeing the photos and reading Kjell's comment it seems he may want you to model it - privately.
ReplyDeleteCrochet? Oh my, quite a work, but looking really cute! I'm only thinking what should we wear under it?
ReplyDeleteHave a happy day, Lois! xx
What does "tricky" mean, please? It's obviously not what I think it is, because I have no idea what you all mean by that word.
ReplyDeleteLois, I saved the picture, Takk! :)

Good morning,
ReplyDeleteI agree with all who said this outfit would be very nice if made in a more conservative way, perhaps more as a vest. And, yes, over a shirt, blouse, or dress, it would be spectacular! The beads on the thin cotton thread make it very "swingy."
Yes, Saskia, it would be a tremendous amount of detail work. I do bead crochet and love it, but it takes so much longer than crochet without beads because of stringing and then handling all of those beads sliding on the thread as you work.
Ambar, "tricky" has at least two meanings that I'm guessing people are thinking about. As cute as this top is for a young person to wear at the right time in the right place, it could also be something someone who wanted to be more risque might wear if no other garment is worn under it.
No, Wanda, I didn't go back and buy it. :))) It has caused enough discussion around here just to take a picture of it!
And, Kjell, my love, the bottom of that thing really DOES look like a normal fishnet! ;) xoxox
Thank you, everyone, for stopping by.
Very best,
Lois
