A Walk Down Duval Street - Part 2 of 2

Good morning,

Today we will continue our walk down Duval Street in Key West Florida.  If you missed it, Part 1 is here.

Each week we see this lady here making her great drawings of visitor's faces.

Here's a little Key West fashion that I've threatened My Honey I will buy and wear.  ;)  Nah, I don't think this will work for a trip to the grocery back home.

There is plenty of real estate available if you want to open your own shop.

We came upon Hog's Breath Saloon, another famous Key West spot.  We have eaten here before some years ago.  I think their wings are too well done and dry, but they do have a great burger.  Hog's Breath doesn't have the class or good food of the Grand Cafe, which was our first choice, but we were there too early today.

This is the outside part of the bar/restaurant.  There's a web cam that's fun.  You can call someone back home on your cell phone and wave to them on the web cam.  Or, maybe that's not a good idea.  ;)

The decor is classic Key West and lots of fun.  :)

Here's lunch:  cheeseburger (very, very good), slaw, pickle, and iced tea.  We each had the same thing and the bill came to $28. before tip.  This is a tourist area so that's not a surprise, but be warned that everything is a la carte.  The cheeseburger comes with potato chips.  You can add the slaw for $2 which we did.  What we didn't know was that when you ADD the slaw for $2, they don't serve the chips.  Go figure.  As I said, the burger was good, but we will wait until the Grand Cafe or another restaurant opens next week.

Back on Duval Street we stopped at CVS Pharmacy to pick up a couple of items we didn't find earlier at Walgreens...

...then past a dockside restaurant to go back to our ship, Majesty of the Seas.

We passed the Old Customs House on our left, now a museum, then went on board the ship where we found...

...a friend holding a Scandinavian treat:  waffles with strawberries and ice cream.   He let me take the picture of the one he had just been given while ours were being made.  :)  We're glad we came back to the "mother ship" for dessert!

So, I hope you've enjoyed walking down Duval Street in Key West with us.

Very best,
Lois

  1. Of course I injoyed my walk down Duval Street. I've never been there so it was really a lot of fun. Weird, they would take away the chips...doesn't seem right. I would have protested for sure! lol
The art lady was neat, and I can't understand why you did't buy that tricky outfit! It's be perfect for Ohio grocery stores! :o) ...debbie

  2. Happy Memorial Day weekend, Lois. I've enjoyed "seeing" Key West FL through your blog posts. We've never been there, but when we visit friends in FL we must make it a place to stop. Never been on a cruise and yours sounds lovely with all its stops. Thanks for checking out our blog and posting, please drop in often to visit.

  3. I liked your stroll and I liked the crochet I saw. I wonder if it would look all right with a blouse underneath?

I wish there were a closer look, maybe I can copy it, make it more modest for my daughter. I've been searching for something to make for her.

  5. It all looks like fun but I just can't get those images of the food out of my mind...'specially that burger/slaw lunch. Ahhhh, it's been too long for me!

  6. Tourist towns like Key West do have beautiful attractions, just touring the shops alone is fun enough almost!

Loved the dessert, it's almost what we had for breakfast this morning...pancakes with syrup, strawberries and whipped cream.

    Enjoyed the walk, Lois!

  7. Hi everyone,

Debbie, Hogs Breath got really busy and the service was very slow so I didn't bother to ask for the chips. I was glad we didn't when we got back to the ship and found that dessert being made! :)))

Yes, Key West is a must see. It is very different between day and night. At night the real parties begin. We prefer it in the day time since we have more fun taking pictures and eating than drinking.

Abnar, that crocheted outfit has been in the doorway of that store for years. I'm sure it will still be there when we go back tomorrow. If I go by there, I'll take a closer picture. If it rains while we are in Key West, I usually just make a quick trip to mail stuff, then run back to the ship so I don't walk down Duval St.

Thank you, my friends, for stopping by. :)

    Very best,
    Lois

  10. Hi,

Thanks for stopping by, Frank. For anyone who hasn't seen it yet, take a look at the great images on Frank's blog.

Yes, Diana, the food is a little pricey on Duval Street, but I am sure the rent is high there for the restaurants, too. If you drink, it is really expensive there. We don't drink while we are out here traveling so that doesn't apply to us. Not that we don't enjoy a sip of cognac at home once in awhile, say about 10 PM, with a little vanilla ice cream.... :)

    Best,
    Lois
