Here are a few images of sailing out of the Port of Miami. The image above is of the cruise ship terminal. The piece of machinery hanging off the terminal in the center of the image is the gangway. Made in Sweden, this walkway adjusts to the height of each ship so passengers have an easy walk between the terminal and the ship. On board
Majesty of the Seas, the ship from which I took this image as we sailed away, the gangway leads directly into the lovely Centrum of the ship.
As we sailed out we passed
Celebrity Century that was tied up in front of us before we left. Note the people standing on the top deck. Both Majesty of the Seas and Celebrity Century are owned by Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. The ships exchanged "goodbyes" by 3 blasts of the horn by one, echoed by 3 blasts of the horn by the other, then a single blast from the first, followed by a single blast by the second. It's all very impressive - and LOUD. :)

Miami.
The white bridge in the center of the image has been featured in many, many movies set in Miami. If you've seen any movies set in Miami, you have surely seen this white bridge.
And, this is the road to South Beach.

It fun viewing the sights of Miami. Pretty bridge. Ocean looks so blue. Have you run into any oil? TV showed oil on the beaches in Florida today. Big Black Blobs. What a mess. Have fun!! ...debbie

ReplyDeleteYes, sailing out of Miami is a classic. More and more companies are moving to other ports, though, for variety and because Miami has loaded on more and more port taxes to cruise passengers.
No, Debbie, no oil where we are yet. According to the news it is could move up past the Keys and the Eastern side of Southern Florida which would be right past Miami and into the areas where we are going.
Those who have been to Curacao know what leaking oil is all about. There are continuous natural leaks on that island. You can smell it as you sail into the harbor and see a line of it along the shore. We are all hoping that doesn't happen to Florida or any other beaches. When the leak is stopped, however, nature will take care of breaking down whatever people don't round up.

Sailing out of port is definitely one of the highlights on a cruise. We sailed out of New Orleans, but I would like to sail from Miami sometime.
