Good morning,
Erik is improving every day after his knee surgery five weeks ago. He's still on leash walks only, but we are now taking him a little further than just the back yard.
We're getting to the front yard now where he can stop to sniff the flowers. :)
Erik is such a good boy. He has handled all of this so very well.
We look forward to when Erik can run and play again. He'll have an x ray within the week to confirm the bone is properly healed and Erik can return to his normal activities. I'm sure he'll be happy about that, too!
Thanks for all of your good wishes for Erik.

More Cicadas!
Good morning,
The Cicadas continue to hatch and invade our yard.
When Catherine and I had the pups outside there was a new, noisy batch of cicadas hatching. I took the image above, then went back for a second shot to try to get one in better focus,...
... but I was photo bombed by our three year old Lab, Wendy. Wendy finds these critters quite tasty. I didn't get my second image of this one because it went too quickly into Wendy's tummy.
If you are interested, do a google search for Cicada Recipes. It seems some humans like them, too. I'll still pass.
It was interesting to find the cicadas in various states of emerging from their shells.
Notice the red eyes. This cicada is morphing quickly into an adult.
And, here comes another.
Mother nature's critters are fascinating.

Waffle Cakes
Good morning,
Back in the days aboard ships, we had waffle cakes at the end of every cruise.
This week good friends of ours from the sailing days were here and Catherine prepared Norwegian waffle cakes, served with ice cream, blueberries, and whipped cream.
There was a little bit of heaven on that plate!

Erik's Physical Therapy
Good morning,
Catherine puts Erik through his physical therapy exercises at home in addition to taking him to a veterinary physical therapist. This is all to help him recover from knee surgery last month.
In these images Catherine is using the jump poles that Erik is used to using in Agility trailing. The pole height is set to six inches here for his therapy.
The objective is for Erik to step over, not hop over the jumps, and to use all four legs. His surgery was on his right hind leg.
As you can see in this video, Erik is doing this perfectly! We are so pleased with his recovery.

Firewood
Good morning,
We're working on the firewood again. We had some large branches come down during recent storms so we're cutting them in fireplace sizes and stacking them.
We still have plenty of wood to split, too.
A friend brought us a truckload of firewood, some of it a little too long for the fireplace. This will be cut later.
Look carefully in the image above to see the metal hook in the branch. That was put there many years ago by Warner Cable. Hmmm. We've not had that cable service for years, but the hook lasted the life time of the tree.
So, the stack of firewood is growing again. We have two fireplaces so we use quite a lot of wood each winter.
Family fun!
